BOB PEDEN

Good morning, this is Bob Peden of Central United Methodist Church. Are you free? We Americans make much of our freedom and assume

that it is our circumstances that determine whether we are free or not.

A prisoner in the notorious Dachau concentration camp in Nazi ruled Germany, left these words scrawled on the wall of a cell. "Leave me here

freely all alone

In cell where never sunlight shone, should no one ever speak to me this golden silence makes me free." This man, locked away in the deepest

darkest parts of a miserable place where there was noone with whom to converse, knew that his freedom depended not on his circumstances

but upon his spirit.

As Christians we, too, should know that it is God, not our circumstances, who makes us free. And God frees us not from our circumstances but

within our situation. Should we never see the light of day or hear another human voice, we are free in the golden silence and the brilliant

darkness. May you choose freedom today.
