GLENDA

Good Morning: There's the greatest story ever told about the greatest man who ever lived who bloomed where His father planted him. That man is Jesus. He came to this earth as a child, walked its hills and valleys as a man, and suffered more persecution than any one person should have to. And he did it all for one reason: because his father, our God, loved us so much that He gave His only begotten son so that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Don't you know, that Jesus could have walked away? He knew that He was placed exactly where He was placed for exactly that reason: to give us salvation and eternal life. In His brief time on earth, He taught us how to treat others. He taught us how to live our lives faithfully. He taught us how much God loves us. If He could endure all He did to bloom where He was planted, don't you think we should try to do the same? If we all are the best God wants us to be no matter what the situation, we can make a difference in this world. Have a wonderful day!

JONATHAN

Hi, I’m Jonathan Crabtree, Pastor for Student Ministry at Central – A United Methodist Community.

This past February, we took our confirmation class to a retreat on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and we talked about what it means to confirm our faith – our baptism. Confirm means to make something solid or concrete. The speaker held up a rock every time we gathered for worship. Since we have a solid foundation to build upon, this means our work, though physically and spiritually difficult and tough at times, will be made solid as well – because we build on the Rock, Jesus Christ. The only reason we are made to last during the difficult ‘storms’ of life is because of our foundation – Jesus Christ.

Take a step in building on the rock, today, by inviting someone to church or maybe memorizing this scripture, and tell someone about it. Build on the foundation and show others how to build on the foundation!

JOHN

Good Morning! I’m John Branning the Lead Pastor of Central United Methodist Church. Philippians 2:5 says “Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus.” The Army Chaplain Corps was at one time in charge of Battle Mind training for Soldiers. The idea was to mentally and spiritually prepare the Soldier for the realities of conflict. I always felt this was the best training that a Soldier could receive before going down range. We, as followers of Jesus, need this training also as we are constantly engaged in spiritual conflict.

Each and every day you are placed on the front lines of an enemy that desire for your life to have no meaning or purpose. His goal is for you to live defeated. Paul told the church at Philippi that they must mentally and physically prepare for this fight. You and I are the tip of the spear when it comes to engaging the world with the message of Jesus. Let us not cower down at the moment that we are needed to press the advantage. Let us have the same mind that was in Christ and that was a Battle Mind.

DENNIS

Good morning everyone. I am Dennis Gossett with Central United Methodist Church.

Humans are some pretty remarkable creatures. We have made some amazing achievements in this world. For example, the Great Wall of China, the Pyramids of Egypt, sky scrapers, cars, the internet, and vaccines against diseases. Humans have found ways to look further and further into space. We have harnessed nuclear energy so powerful that it could level entire nations.

As of today, there are unmanned aircrafts controlled by people on the other side of the world. The advancements made through human ingenuity is mind boggling. Yet, in spite of all these remarkable technologies, we still cannot draw closer to the Creator of all things. It does not matter how strong or how smart we become, we still remain unable to make ourselves good enough to stand before a holy God. Only through the strength and confidence found in Jesus can such things be accomplished. In him we can live forever, love the unlovable, be the spouse, child, and friend we are called to be and do what is right. Where does your confidence lie?

KRISTINA

Good Morning, I am Kristina Crabtree Minister of Spiritual Formation at Central United Methodist Church.

I want to tell you a story about “The Empty Teacup. There is a story about a university professor who came to a Zen master to ask him about Zen. The Zen master served him tea. He poured his visitor’s cup full, and then kept pouring and pouring. The professor watched the overflow until he could no longer restrain himself. The professor said, it’s over-full, no more will go in. The Zen master said, like this cup you are full of your own opinions and speculations, how can I teach you unless you first empty your cup?”

Like the professor, we come to God as followers of his son wanting to have more knowledge about God to make us better Christians. But as the Zen master replied, you are full of your own stuff, and how true this is about our spiritual journey with God. Empty your teacup today and sit with the Lord for him to fill your cup thru his knowledge and wisdom.

JOHN

Good Morning! I’m John Branning, Lead Pastor of Central United Methodist Church. “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” Genesis 1:1

As you read the opening lines of the Book of Genesis, you read the beginning of your story. Your story is as unique as the fingerprints on every human hand. These stories are made up of the people, places, and moments in a person’s life that make them who and what they are.

Have you ever pondered the fact that no one will ever live the same life that you do? I want to ask you a few questions about your story. First, I want you to identify the single most influential person in your life. This person has had a profound impact on the person that you are now. They taught you what was most important and what was least important. I bet that you think of them often if they are no longer living or you make contact with them daily if they are. Am I right?

Secondly, I want you to identify who you are impacting in that same way. Believe it or not, there is someone at this very moment that you are leaving your legacy to the world through. As a follower of Jesus, don’t make them believe that you are without spot or blemish. As a follower of Jesus show them the self-disciplined life of a warrior. As a follower of Jesus, know that your story is connected to the story of God.

GLENDA

Good Morning: Let's try another story about 'blooming where planted.” I know you know the story of Noah. God told him to build a big boat and gather two of every kind of animal to go in this big boat, called an Ark. As he was building God's ark, he was ridiculed and laughed at by his neighbors. Even his own sons were a little concerned about him. But Noah trusted God and he persevered. I call that blooming where he was planted. He didn't let anyone keep him from doing what God wanted him to do.

You know the rest of the story. The rains came for forty days and nights, and when it was over, Noah, his family, and all those animals were the only things saved. Are you listening to God? Are you strong enough like Noah to hang in there? Are you blooming where you are planted? When things get rough, remember Noah. Have a wonderful day.

DENNIS

Good morning everyone. I am Dennis Gossett with Central United Methodist Church.

Have you ever wanted to share the gospel with someone, but was too shy to do so? Have you ever gotten into a conversation about religion, and it ended up being an argument? Most of us have been there at one point or another.

I remember being a student at the University of Mississippi when a traveling evangelist came through. This guy was so rude and began condemning every person who walked by. According to him, if you wore a Rolling Stones t-shirt, then you were going straight to hell. I remember thinking I don’t ever want to be like this guy.

In my opinion, you can never share the gospel with an argument. It must be shared from an experience. Your experience is personal; it is a story about you. The Apostle Paul was great at sharing his story with other people. His story was about a personal encounter with a Savior who is alive!

People need to hear about a gospel that is real and how it affects real people in real situations. People need to hear your story. I challenge you to share your story today without presenting an argument.

BOB

"Life happens fast!" It comes so quickly that about the time we get comfortable in one stage of life, we move into a different phase. With life coming (and going) so quickly, how do we manage it?

Here are a few things to remember:  Live today, not tomorrow, or yesterday. Slow down. Try to eliminate hurry from your life. Remind yourself that you have all the time you need to do what God wants you to do. Enjoy the moment. When you work, work hard. When you rest, rest. When you are with friends, shut your phone off and be with your friends.

"Life happens fast!"  Watch closely. Pay attention. Slow down. Take time. Life comes at us full force from the first breath and does not slow down until the last.

God has given us life and life abundantly. We have the tools to live it at His pace, in His time, and like He wants us to.  This week, I hope you can receive the life God has planned for you, and enjoy it to the fullest and not just at its fastest!

JOHN

Good Morning! I’m John Branning the Lead Pastor of Central United Methodist Church. This Saturday from 11-1230, we will have our second IronMakers’ event for men at Central. It will consist of 30 minutes of fellowship, 30 minutes of tactical teaching, and a personal story of an IronMaker. If you would like to be a part of this event, go to our website by typing central.community in the https address line on the net.

The purpose of this event is found in my time in the Middle East on my last deployment. As I served as an Army Chaplain, I was able to see the strength and determination that each Soldier displayed in service to their country. I thought to myself, what if each follower of Jesus had that same type of determination. What if we were the examples of strength that could change a community? If you desire to experience that strength, it begins by making up your mind and taking a step to follow Jesus. I invite you to take your first steps with us at Central.

SABRINA

Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snap Chat...We have so many ways to stay connected today, yet, more people every day find themselves alone and isolated. We can live in a picture-perfect world while reality falls in around us. When it comes time to share the things that matter, they can't seem to find anyone who wants to listen.

In our world of ever-growing, impersonal communication, we need to remember and hold on to the thoughts and prayers of David found in Psalm 139.
LORD, YOU have searched me and you know me. YOU know when I sit and when I rise; YOU are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue YOU know it completely. If I go up to the heavens, YOU are there; If I make my bed in the depths, YOU are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, If I settle on the far side of the sea, even there YOUR hand will guide me.

God understands and is always with us. He knows what you want to say even when you don't know how to say it. You may not find Him on Facebook nor follow Him on Twitter, but you can have a relationship with Him that goes far beyond anyone or anything here on earth.

BOB

Good morning! This is Bob Peden of Central, a United Methodist Community in Meridian. For those of us who have received him and have believed in his name, Jesus means everything, or at least we say that Jesus means everything to us. We confess Jesus as the Christ, the Messiah, of God promised to the Jewish people from the time of Abraham. We proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord C our Lord, Lord of all people, all time, and all creation. With this faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord, we also proclaim that this Christ is the center of our faith. Christ is our destination. Jesus Christ is our goal.
Jesus Christ is our Savior. Jesus Christ is our example.

However, Christ is more than these descriptions. Christ is more than we can ask, imagine, or fully explain, Christ is certainly more than our words can contain. Today, we want to remind ourselves that at the heart of our faith is this one fundamental truth: Jesus Christ is our Center! In fact, Christ is THE center of everything good, right, true, moral, and eternal!

JONATHAN

Hi, I’m Jonathan Crabtree, Pastor for Student Ministry at Central – A United Methodist Community.

I enjoy exercising, and in days past, I have competed in athletic events. This surprises people when I tell them, but it’s true! I don’t look like the ideal athlete. I have not competed in a long time; however, I still train and exercise. If I ever take some time off from exercising, the very next workout is tough! I have been conditioning my body to endure the discipline and training, and when I stop, it’s always difficult to get going again.

Perhaps the same is with our spirituality and our spiritual disciplines. If we stop or get behind, it’s often difficult to catch up, and that’s something to consider. Don’t try to catch up and miss the current surroundings. Take your time; condition yourself and run this race with endurance – not hindrances.

Think of a spiritual discipline in which you would like to work on. Set goals and condition yourself. Ask God for strength. And grow in your faith!

KRISTINA

Good Morning! I am Kristina Crabtree, Minister of Spiritual Formation at Central United Methodist Church.

If I say that this morning I will be talking about suffering, what will be your reaction? Will you turn off the tv? Do you get sad when you hear the word suffering? Maybe it’s because you have been through a struggle or going through a struggle right now.

Sometimes, I think we can get the wrong perception of suffering as if it is something we deserve or something that we don’t deserve. Now let me ask you this, why do you think Jesus died on the cross? Most people would say to save us from our sins.

Will that be true? When we read Isaiah 53, we see another aspect to the death of Jesus. Verse 3 talks about Jesus being a man of sorrow; a person who was acquainted with grief. In verse 4 it describes Jesus’ death as him taking on our griefs and carrying our sorrows. If you are suffering today, know that Jesus not only died on the cross for our sins but that while he was on the cross he took our very griefs and sorrows.

JONATHAN

Hi, I’m Jonathan Crabtree, Pastor for Student Ministry at Central – A United Methodist Community. Do you know a person, perhaps yourself, who always has a smile? No matter the circumstance, they seem to have this joyful spirit about them at all times?

I can think of some, myself. I believe this is the joy in which Jesus speaks of. If the very Spirit of God – the presence of God – lives in and through us, then like Jesus says, “My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.” Here, Jesus seems to refer to a pot of water overflowing at the brim. This is the same joy as followers of Jesus Christ – to the top and overflowing into others’ lives.

Be mindful of moments when you may not seem or appear joyful to others today. At the end of the day, replay the day in your mind, and ask God to show you where you were or could have been joyful. Then, ask God for this joy to overflow and into others.

SABRINA

Too often, the Bible feels like an outdated history book. We often forget that those we read about were, indeed, people just like us! Now imagine what it was like to live and work in a dusty, bustling city along the Nile - Of what must have gone through the mind of a young boy, by the name of Joseph, who endured heartbreaking trials, discouraging moments of hopelessness, joyous victories, and tear-filled celebrations. We find that through EVERY circumstance, Joseph proclaimed a steadfast faith in God.
If you know of a child 4 year - 5th grade who needs or would like to experience life in the Old Testament, I invite you to join us, next week, June 13th - 17th, 9 AM - 12 Noon, as we are immersed in Egypt, experiencing new traditions, tasting new foods, trying new crafts, and discovering that God NEVER leaves us alone, then join us for Egypt - Joseph’s Journey from Prison to Palace.

This hand’s on, inter-active week, promises to be one that children will not soon forget, and the lessons learned of God’s faithfulness in ALL situations will follow them for years to come!

DENNIS

Good morning everyone. I am Dennis Gossett with Central United Methodist Church.

As I watch television, I am always astonished at how incomplete the advertisers tell me my life really is. They say that I am not living to my fullest potential by not wearing a certain watch, driving a specific car, putting on a certain type of cologne, or having six pack abs. Immediately, I will dismiss those commercials, but subconsciously, I still tend to look at myself in these terms. It comes to light when I find myself wanting to be and look like a certain image. So, when I don’t have, become or look like that image, I get angry with myself and say, “Something must be wrong with me.” Even worse, I sometimes want to blame others for my failure.

So many times, we put all of our trust into things that advertisers say that we need to be complete. Sadly, when we do finally get them, it doesn’t take long for the new to wear off and we start searching for something else. Jesus seems to point out that all of these things are nothing but trouble. Nothing in this world can satisfy our internal need. I challenge you to start trusting in the one and start living as you were truly meant to live.

KRISTINA

Good Morning! My name is Kristina Crabtree, and I am the minister of Spiritual Formation at Central United Methodist Church.

Today is my daughter’s 4th birthday. With any birthday, we think back over the day of their birth, the journey that parents and families go through in order to bring a new child into the world. Bringing a child into to the world is very much an act of humility. For Ps. 139 beautifully describes how God knew us even before we were conceived. He was there in our mother’s womb, and he is the God who is always with us today.

As followers of Jesus, we are called to be imitators of Jesus. If you are a follower of Jesus, your life is a spiritual journey that is being formed each and every day more into the image of Jesus. We were naturally created in the image of God, but our formation, our journey as a follower is very much about becoming like the Father’s son.

I hope you will take your own spiritual birth and formation into the image of God’s son as a way of reflection today. I hope you have a great day! Happy birthday, Dani!

GLENDA

Good Morning: Did you know that one of the symbols Christians used back in Bible times was the fish? They used the drawing of a fish to identify one another without arousing suspicion. Sometimes they carved the fish symbol into the bottom of their shoe so it would make an imprint in the sand. Sometimes when they met someone they did not know was a Christian, they drew half the fish symbol in the sand. If the other person was a Christian, he knew to draw the other part.

Anyway, the Greek work for fish is ICTHUS. The first letter (I) is the first letter of Jesus in Greek, the second letter(C) is the first letter of Christ in Greek; the (th) stands for the first letter in God in Greek; the letter (S) is the first letter of Savior in Greek. So the word ICTHUS and the fish symbol stood as shorthand for: Jesus Christ, God's Son, our Savior. Isn't that neat? So, now you know why you see a lot of fish symbols as stickers on cars or on jewelry. It is a sign of a Christian. Can people tell you are a Christian even without wearing a fish symbol? I hope so.
Have a wonderful day!

SABRINA

Just as in our individual families, our church family has recently seen a lot of change. We have lost some much loved, long-time members of our church family who were actively involved until their death. We have welcomed new families into our church who have quickly found their place and mission in God’s plan. We have welcomed infants, who will grow and have their first memories of church here.

Each person within a church, no matter how young or old, is needed to complete the circle. We are all part of the body of Christ. Each person is needed in representation of the body. ..AND when you are not involved in church, there is a void both within your life and the life of a church.

In allowing Christian community and fellowship, you are experiencing God in a very real, physical way. We are, indeed, the hands and feet of Christ.

If you do not have a church home, we invite you to worship at Central. Our service times are 8:30, 9:45, and 10:55 on Sunday mornings, children, youth, and small group activities take place at various times throughout the week. For more information you may check us out at www.cumcmdn.org!
Have a blessed day!

JONATHAN

Hi, I’m Jonathan Crabtree, Pastor for Student Ministry at Central – A United Methodist Community. “What’s the purpose?” I often ask this question when my curious mind seeks to know why something exists. From a painting in an office to the vacant building on the corner of anywhere, I simply desire to know the purpose. Humans place meaning and value on several things, but what about purpose?

For something to have a purpose, I assume that it carries a daily meaning and function. Can you think of something that you use on a daily basis in order to function? What about our purpose as humanity? What about our purpose as followers of Jesus Christ?

Our purpose is our mission, which is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Our purpose is bigger than ourselves, and God invites us to join in something global. Now, that’s purpose! That’s a reason to exist. That’s a reason to live!

Are there things in your life that serve no purpose? What are they? Allow time for God to reveal them to you this day.

JOHN

Good Morning!
I’m John Branning the Lead Pastor of Central United Methodist Church. Jesus said in John 10:10 “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.”
In our world, there is a great argument over the understanding of the need of religion in the role of modern society. Our televisions display picture after picture of what they identify as “religious extremists.” This has caused many people to decry religion and remove it from the public spectrum. As a follower of Jesus, you have not been called to argue the need for or against religion. Instead, you are directed to enter into relationships with all different types of people so that you may use your spiritual influence to point them to Christ.

Jesus said that the enemy’s purpose is to steal, kill and destroy but his purpose was to give life. This is the greatest news that we, as his followers, could ever share. God doesn’t need you holding a sign up in front of a public building. He does need you to be in relationships where you have spiritual influence and can share the message of life that is found in following him.
