Good Morning!

Once there were 2 farmers who couldn’t get along to save their lives. A wide ravine separated their farms, but as a sign of their mutual hatred, each constructed a fence on his side of the ravine to keep the other out.

In time, however, the daughter of one of the men met the son of the other, and the two kids fell in love with one another, determined not to be kept apart by their fathers, they tore down the walls and used the wood to build a bridge across the chasm.

Confession does that for the soul. Confessed sin becomes the bridge that allows us to walk back into the presence of God.  Is there a chasm between you and God? Are you keeping anything from Him? Bad behavior? Bad Attitude? Doubt? Tell God about it right now. Tear down the barricades and build a bridge back to Him today.

When you have a moment to yourself read the 32nd Psalm. What happened to David when he kept silent about his wrongs? What changed when he confessed? Don’t you feel closer to your friends who trust you enough to tell you everything? That is exactly what God wants from us!

GLENDA

Good Morning:  When I was in school, my favorite teacher was Mrs. Hyde. She really cared about every one of us. She not only taught us the things we were supposed to learn as fourth graders, but was concerned about our spiritual life, too. Every morning when she called the role, we had to answer with a Bible verse and we couldn't repeat what someone else said. The shortest verse, we learned, was “Jesus wept” and whoever was called on first always said that verse.

Every night I would have to memorize several verses so I would have one that no-one else said. Isn't it a shame that she would get in trouble if she were alive today and asked our children to say a Bible verse? The times they are a-changing and I'm not sure it's for the best. We're in trouble and it's because we are taking God out of our lives. Today I ask you to pray for our city and pray for our children. We can make a difference! Have a wonderful day!

DENNIS

Good Morning. I am Dennis Gossett with Central United Methodist Church. Today is a special day in my extended family. I have a sister and three close cousins who are celebrating a birthday today. Happy birthday Heather, Mike, Angie, and Jason! I wish we could all celebrate like we use to as children. Unfortunately, like most families, we all have moved away from each other.
Life seems to move us all in many different directions. You may be experiencing the same thing; being a long ways off from your family and friends. And at times, you feel a bit lonely. There is a story in the bible about how God moved a man named Abraham away from his family, and into an unfamiliar place. Yet, God was still with him. He was closer to Abraham than any parent, sibling, or cousin could ever be. God never left Abraham alone. It is the same for you and I. No matter how much distance we put between us and our love ones, God is closer. In order to see just how close He really is, all you have to do is claim what God told Abraham, “I Am your shield.”
If you feel far away from home, then come to your extended family’s celebration at Central every Sunday to see how close God wants to be to you.

RANDY HAMMON

Good Morning!

Have you ever questioned what God really expects of us when we decide to follow Him?  Most people, as well as most saints in the Bible, have asked this question.

One that stands out to me was Micah, one of the prophets in the Old Testament.  He was pretty straightforward with the question.  In Micah Chapter 6, he asks the Lord what he can come to the Lord with.  Can I bring the Lord burnt offerings; can I sacrifice rams; can I offer rivers of oil; shall I present my firstborn for my rebellious acts?

You know, we do the same things today, thinking we have to give up this or that to please the Lord.  But listen to how the Lord answered.  The Lord said, “I have told you oh man what is good; and what do I require of you, but to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God.

Let’s try God’s simple three steps, and stop making our relationships with God so complicated.

When you’re thirsty, cotton-mouth parched, water is what you want and need. Scientists have told us that we can survive for only a matter of days without water.  Being thirsty reminds us that we need to drink; therefore, our thirst helps keep us alive.

Another thirst is crucial in keeping us spiritually alive.  That is the thirst of our soul. This soul thirst recognizes when we have let our lives become arid deserts, wandering far from the fountain of life.  With only sand around us, we look for the oasis, the soul-quenching satisfaction that only God can give.  Jesus invited soul-thirsty people to come to him, “if anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink” (John 7:37).
Only in him will our souls find complete satisfaction.  Only through his Spirit can we know precisely and perfectly the One who is the eternal source for a fully satisfied soul.
HOLY SPIRIT, I WANT YOU TO QUENCH MY THIRST TODAY WITH RIVERS OF LIVING WATER!

Don’t we all long to be loved and accepted? To belong? So many messages
tell us we don’t. We get cut from the baseball team, dropped from the
Honor Roll, our hours are cut at work, we’re left off the guest list
for the party this weekend.

Everything from acne to anorexia leaves us feeling like the kid with no date to the prom. The world acts, we react. We validate our existence with a hailstorm of activity. We do more, lose more weight, buy more clothes, and achieve more.

We try to say the right things, to the right people, to get the right look, to be invited to hang with the right people. We try to fit in. All of it boiling down to the question we ask ourselves when we’re alone, “Do I belong, do I matter?”

God has an answer. His grace, outrageous, overflowing, reaching beyond the stars and back again is the definitive reply. “Be blessed my child. I love you, I accept you. I have adopted you into my family.”  Adopted children are chosen children.

Join all of God’s children in His House this Sunday for worship.  If you don’t already have a church where you attend, I would like to invite you to join us in worship at 8:30, 9:45, or 10:55 a.m. at Central United Methodist church!

At Central, we believe a person’s spiritual journey begins at birth. The sole vision of our Children’s Ministry is to teach children about the never ending, all encompassing love of God and to enable them to claim that as the ONE thing in their life that will never change, in whatever circumstance they may find themselves.

In our nursery and preschool department, children learn that God is indeed love, they begin to hear and experience the loved stories of the Bible - in our Elementary Department, through our Rotation Sunday School program, Sunday night Scripture Memorization and Wednesday evening small groups, students experience a more hands-on approach to the scriptures; and as they enter into our transition and youth ministry, they begin to define their OWN faith through life application.

If you are currently looking for a church home for your family, please come visit and worship with us! For more information on times and activities, visit our website at www.cumcmdn.org!

GLENDA

Good Morning:  Did you know that back in Bible times when the master of the house left his seat at the table, he either left his linen napkin folded or thrown on the floor? Each indicated to the server, whether he was returning or not. Thrown on the floor said he was through and he was not coming back to the table. If his napkin was folded, that signaled that he was not finished and he would return.

Now, look to the tomb where Jesus was buried. When the disciples came to the tomb, Jesus was gone, but the linens that had wrapped his face and body were left neatly folded on the table where his body had previously lain. I have often wondered why they were left so neatly folded. Now I know the answer. He wasn't through with us. He's coming back. It's as simple as that! Have a wonderful day!

BOB

This is Bob Peden of Central United Methodist Church. This morning I am standing in an area of Central we call “The Crossing.” The Crossing is at the very center of our church and is a place where we gather for fellowship and coffee between services. At Central we offer three Sunday morning worship experiences. At 8:30 we begin with an exciting Contemporary service in the Fellowship Hall with great sound and exciting state of the are projection equipment. Then at 9:45 we offer CONNECT a place to connect with God and with others - an even more high energy celebration of God’s connection with His world. Then at 10:55 the organ calls us into a time of traditional worship. A more calm, introspective service but with all the pageantry and beauty of traditional worship. You are invited to join us at any of these worship experiences at Central United Methodist Church, in Meridian,  on 22nd and 23rd avenues at 10th Street

DENNIS

Good Morning. This Sunday, June 15, is a very special Sunday because it is Father’s Day. And as the world celebrates fatherhood, let’s spend a few moments reflecting on what a father is like. Some of you will have a positive image of a father, because you had a loving dad. There are some who will have a negative image, because your dad was mean and abusive. Still, there are others who do not have any image of a father at all, because there was not one around.
Regardless of any of the experiences you or I had with a father, there is the One who is the Ultimate Dad. He is the Creator who loves all His children, and wants only the best for each of them. Honestly, we all need this Father in order to grow up and into our created purpose. This Father wants all earthly fathers to model themselves after Him, so there will be a rising up of real men and women. Men, we must learn from our true Father about how to honestly provide for our families and to protect and teach our children how to live a life of integrity.
Imagine what it would be like if all men started imitating God, taking care of their children, and taking the fatherless under their wings. This is Dennis Gossett saying, “Thanks Dad!”

RAY DURDEN

As Christians we are not meant to be less human than other people, but more human, just as
Jesus of Nazareth was more human.

This side of heaven, Christians do not live perfectly, yet all Christians do have a perfect standing before God, having received “the righteousness of God   through faith in Jesus Christ” (Romans 3:22).  Our position in Christ, however, does not always match our process of living like Christ.  When a saved saint acts less than saintly, those outside the church cry, “The church is a bunch of hypocrites!”

Certainly, more often than should happen, Christians fail to live up to their name.
We never deny that we are still human and as such can sin like all the rest of humanity.  What makes us different is that we have the presence of One in us who transforms us desire by desire, attitude by attitude, and action by action.  Through him we become more like Christ in our thoughts, actions, and lives.

JIM CAIN

Good Morning!

When I was in junior high school we read fables from all over the world
one semester. I remember reading one from Russia about a servant and
master who went on a journey to a faraway city. Many o the details have been forgotten in time, but I remember the 2 men got caught in a
raging blizzard and lost their way, forcing them to be out in the elements overnight. The next morning rescuers found the master frozen to
death face down in the snow. The servant, however, they found alive trapped between the ground and his master. Later he told his saviors
that his master had voluntarily laid over him so that he could live.

I hadn’t thought about that story in years until I thought about what Christ did for us, for Jesus is the master who died for his servants. Only through the sacrifice of our master, Jesus, do we survive and reach our goal. He
dies so we can live.

Good Morning:  The disciples following Jesus watched him often go to his Father in prayer. I don't think they knew how to pray, because they asked Jesus to teach them how. That prayer that Jesus taught them is called The Lord's Prayer and most of us know that by heart. It's a very simple prayer and we understand most of it. However there is one part that really gets to me. That's the part that says, “forgive us our debts, as we forgive others.” That one word AS is a bummer! Because we are asking God to forgive us in the same way that we forgive others. That tells me that if I can't forgive someone who has hurt me, or done me wrong in some way, then God won't forgive me.

That's a scary thought, right? So, in that simple prayer Jesus is teaching us the importance of forgiveness. No matter how big or how small the hurt, we are to be the forgivers...especially if we want God to forgive us. Think about that and have a wonderful day!

Central’s Vacation Bible School, Workshop of Wonders, begins NEXT Monday morning at 9:00 and is open to children 4 years - 5th grade.  To register, please visit our website at www.cumcmdn.org. This coming Sunday, June 15th at 5:00 p.m., we will kick off our week with an afternoon of fun, fellowship and mission.

While much of the “hype” over the recent spring tornados has died down, there is still much loss and need that our neighbors to the north are dealing with.  On Sunday afternoon, June 15th, we will kick off with a mission to just let the people of Louisville and surrounding areas know they are not forgotten.  We invite you to join us on 10th Street as we paint birdhouses, colorful rocks, clay ornaments, just in a jester to remind our neighbors they are loved. Hamburgers, hotdogs, and snow cones will all be a part of our afternoon.

Throughout the week we will be collecting more supplies that will be taken to Louisville on Friday, June 20th. The list of suggested items needed may be found on our website! Come join us as we remember our neighbors!

DENNIS

Good Morning, I am Dennis Gossett with Central United Methodist

Church. Well, by now summer is officially in full force. If you are like me,

you are planning vacations, taking time off from your jobs, and your

students are getting a break from their studies.

During this time of year, we want to relax and enjoy ourselves. After all,

isn’t that what summer is all about? But, this should not be an excuse to

grow relaxed in our faith. It is tempting to let our prayer life grow weak

when we are surrounded by our vacation paradise. God wants us to always

rely upon him, even when things could not seemingly get any better. That is

why he reminds you to always “make your petitions deeps.”

There are still people and situations in your life, in your community, and in

the world that still need your wonderful intercession. When we continue to

offer up our deep petitions to God, we are keeping our hearts fixated on the

One who is working in all things. So, as you are soaking up the suns rays on

your vacation and you’re getting a moment of relaxation, remember those

who could use some time soaking up the rays of God’s Son and are in need

of His peace. Then offer them up joyfully to Him.

Good Morning:  Many, many years ago, a soldier found himself far from home in a foreign country with no Bible....but he did have a deck of cards. He discovered he could use those cards to do his Bible study each night and feel the comfort and love of God. You see, the Ace reminded him that there is only one God; the two reminded him that the Bible is divided into 2 parts (the old and new testaments); the 3 reminded him of the Trinity (God the father, God the son, and God the Holy Spirit). The 4 reminded him of the four Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. #6 reminded him that God created everything in 6 days and the 7th, well, that's the day he rested and called Holy. #10 reminded him of the 10 commandments and the King reminded him that Jesus is our King.

Now, my point is that he learned those things as a child, hid those words in his heart, and was able to pull them out at a time when he needed them. He had a good foundation. Are you giving your children that good foundation? Have a wonderful day.
