DENNIS

Good Morning. I am Dennis Gossett with Central United Methodist Church. Today is a special day in my extended family. I have a sister and three close cousins who are celebrating a birthday today. Happy birthday Heather, Mike, Angie, and Jason! I wish we could all celebrate like we use to as children. Unfortunately, like most families, we all have moved away from each other.
Life seems to move us all in many different directions. You may be experiencing the same thing; being a long ways off from your family and friends. And at times, you feel a bit lonely. There is a story in the bible about how God moved a man named Abraham away from his family, and into an unfamiliar place. Yet, God was still with him. He was closer to Abraham than any parent, sibling, or cousin could ever be. God never left Abraham alone. It is the same for you and I. No matter how much distance we put between us and our love ones, God is closer. In order to see just how close He really is, all you have to do is claim what God told Abraham, “I Am your shield.”
If you feel far away from home, then come to your extended family’s celebration at Central every Sunday to see how close God wants to be to you.
