JOHN

Good Morning! I’m John Branning, Lead Pastor of Central United Methodist Church. How many of you have heard the term, “implied tasks”? In the military implied tasks are those tasks that a Soldier, Marine, Sailor, or Airman must accomplish so that they mission can be successful. Implied tasks are neither in manuals or written orders; instead, the individual is just supposed to know what is to be done.
If the kingdom is going to grow and more people follow the way of Jesus, then there are things we must do without being constantly told or constantly reminded to do. We are supposed to live the life of a follower that is positive, encouraging, and inviting to all people. We are always supposed to be looking at the world through spiritual lenses, able to see the good in others and the opportunities that are around us to introduce people to Jesus. You are to be confident, approachable and full of grace that is shown in times of adversity and in times of calm. No one should have to remind us of this, because we are followers of Jesus, and we know what must be done.

DENNIS

Good morning everyone. I am Dennis Gossett with Central United Methodist Church. I do not know about you, but it is very disheartening when I turn on the news only to hear about someone hurting someone else. We have become overwhelmed with reports of murders and assaults. We hear troubling news of the war raging on overseas and the massive loss of life.

It doesn’t take a spiritual person to realize that humans have a sin problem. The bible tells us that humanity has a real enemy who influences us and his intent is to kill, steal, and destroy. So, what can we do? Are we all doomed to this horrible fate? The answer is no! We have a Savior who will deliver us from the Evil one. Once we accept Jesus, he wants us to live in opposition to all of the violence in the world. He said that he wants his disciples to love one another. He said this love will be so radical that this is how the world will know that we are his disciples.

Do you have peace and freedom in your life? Do you know the real love of God? I invite you to Central where we are spreading the love of God that is in complete opposition to this world of hate. Have a blessed day.

SABRINA

Have you gotten to the point that you feel you can’t continue?  Sometimes this is

because of legitimate, strenuous tasks, but more often than not, it happens when

we try and handle life’s responsibilities in our own strength.  We keep working

and pushing - feeling that if WE fail, everything will fall apart.  We trust

ourselves for success rather than God.

One of my favorite Christian groups is Selah.  They have a song and the words

go like this:
“When the valley is deep
When the mountain is steep
When the body is weary
When we stumble and fall
When the choices are hard
When we're battered and scarred
When we've spent our resources
When we've given our all
In Jesus' name, we press on
In Jesus' name, we press on”

We only need to turn to the one who can re-energize and give us strength. So this

morning, in Jesus’ name, be filled with His wisdom, His strength, and be

empowered for the day ahead!  Press On!

BOB

Good morning! This is Bob Peden of Central - A United Methodist Community

in downtown Meridian.

Our world is broken. Anger simmers beneath the pervasive hurt.
Hope is a dying ember quickly turning to ash for untold numbers of people.

Despair reigns in the hearts of people who feel pushed aside and left behind

because of their visible wounds and their perceived deficiencies.

Each broken heart needs the personal touch of Jesus. Each heart caught in the

grip of despair needs the touch of a friend who makes the loving touch of Jesus

real to them. Did you realize that you can be that friend who makes the loving

touch of Jesus real to someone who need his healing touch desperately?

As you move through this broken world, do not be looking for ways that the

world hurts you, rather, be looking for those other souls who need Jesus’ touch

in their lives. I promise you will be touched as well.

GLENDA

Good Morning! Did you know that one of the symbols Christians used back in Bible times was the fish? They used the drawing of a fish to identify one another without arousing suspicion. Sometimes they carved the fish symbol into the bottom of their shoe so it would make an imprint in the sand. Sometimes when they met someone they did not know was a Christian, they drew half the fish symbol in the sand. If the other person was a Christian, he knew to draw the other part.

Anyway, the Greek work for fish is ICTHUS. The first letter (I) is the first letter of Jesus in Greek, the second letter(C) is the first letter of Christ in Greek; the (th) stands for the first letter in God in Greek; the letter (S) is the first letter of Savior in Greek. So the word ICTHUS and the fish symbol stood as shorthand for: Jesus Christ, God's Son, our Savior. Isn't that neat?

So, now you know why you see a lot of fish symbols as stickers on cars or on jewelry. It is a sign of a Christian. Can people tell you are a Christian even without wearing a fish symbol? I hope so. Have a wonderful day!

KRISTINA

Good Morning, I am Kristina Crabtree, Minister of Spiritual Formation at Central United Methodist Church. Happiness. It is a virtue, a like style that we all strive to have in our lives. I was reading an article the other day about researchers from Harvard doing a study on happiness. Over the last 75 years, the researchers from Harvard have been studying 724 men. They would track their life style, choices, state of their homes, and their health. Robert Waldeinger sums the results of 75 years of study by saying “It has nothing to do with fame or wealth or working harder.

The real lesson from these lives is: “Good relationships keep us happier and healthier.” Have you ever noticed in the creation story that God said 7 times that all creation was good, but did you notice Gen. 2:18 saying, “It is not good for man to be alone.” Relationships are what represent the very nature and personality of the triune God. That is why at Central we value saying life is better connected. So lets rekindle those relationships that are broken. We are created in the image of God to be in relationship. Have a great day!

DENNIS

Good morning everyone. I am Dennis Gossett with Central United Methodist Church. Recently, I saw a video of a man sitting in a lawn chair in the middle of a big green pasture. The man also had a musical instrument with him. The video showed the man playing this instrument, and moments later, in the background, cattle started to appear. The longer he played, the more cattle appeared in the pasture. They kept coming closer and closer until they were surrounding his chair.

Jesus tells his opponents that those who follow him know his voice when he calls them. He said I am the Shepherd and they are my sheep. He also goes on to say that there are those who do not know his voice. Do you know your Shepherd’s voice? It is a fact that there are many voices calling out to you in this world. The question is, which one will you answer? It is also a fact that Jesus is the only one who can lead you to eternal life. You or someone you know may be lost and wandering without a shepherd. The good news is that Jesus is looking for you. I invite you to Central to come and hear the good news of your shepherd. God Bless.

Good Morning: Did you know that God is crazy about you? If he had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it. If He had a wallet, your photo would be in it. He sends you flowers every spring. He sends you a sunrise every morning...and a sunset every evening.

If God took vacations, He'd take His with you. He's with you every second of every day. He wrote His songs just for you, and created birds to sing them. Whenever you want to talk, He listens...and He hears every word. He can live anywhere in the universe, yet He chooses your heart. After all he made you and all creation and after each and everything he created, he said, “It is good.” That's what he said about you.

The only thing that can separate you from His love is you! Sometimes we forget that, don't we? Well, let's let today be the day that we remember how very much God loves each and every one of his creations, and let's live the life He wanted for us. Have a wonderful day! And, Happy Birthday, Cassie!!!

SABRINA

Do you remember as a child thinking - WHEN I AM GROWN I will do as I

please, make my OWN decisions, no one will tell me what to do!

Our human nature tells us self-sufficiency is the greatest goal we could achieve,

but Christ says, “be weak, and find your strength in Me.”  The world says, “trust

your own ability and talents.”  God says, “do not lean on your own

understanding, but trust Me to direct your paths.”  Our culture tells us to value

property and possessions, but Jesus reminds us that this world is not our home.

The approval to be “great” in the world’s eyes is so pervasive… it invades our

jobs, friendships, purchases, and so many other areas of our lives.  But God’s

view of greatness is humility. When we are at our weakest, we find the greatest

strength in the power He provides.
We don’t have to prove anything to Him. He created us, in His image, and we are

treasured by Him. In His eyes we ARE great!

If today finds you questioning your abilities, simply remember you were created

in the image of the Great Creator, and that, my friend, is sufficient!

JONATHAN

Hi, I’m Jonathan Crabtree, Pastor for Student Ministry at Central – a United Methodist Community. Have you ever felt the urge to do something out of your comfort zone, but held back for reasons such as fear of failure, lack of self-confidence, or because you convinced yourself that it wasn’t the right time? I’m sure we all have at some point. A character named Abram was called out of his own country and family, and in the ancient near-Eastern area of the world, a person didn’t do that.

Abram felt more than an urge; he heard the voice of God tell him what to do. What we have recorded in Genesis is that he did the very thing he was told to do without reservation. Do you think Abram was afraid? Uncomfortable? Or even lacked self-confidence? I think so, but what we see happen is that God continues to guide him, and Abram becomes Abraham and a patriarch of the Jewish and Christian faith. He took a healthy risk, trusted God, and stepped out of his comfort zone. Are you feeling that urge to step out of your comfort zone today? Then do it! It could impact the world!

BOB

Good morning! This is Bob Peden of Central - A United Methodist Community in downtown Meridian. Today is April 15th, tax day, the day when all of our tax returns are due to the internal revenue service and to the state department of revenue. Our popular culture likes to look at this day and lament all of the wasted money and failed projects that our governments have created. But as a good citizen of our country and a faithful Christian, I choose to take this day to celebrate all the good that our governments accomplish.

For though there are waste and misuse, the funds we provide through our taxes pay for a strong military and police protections that give us a high level of security. These funds pay for highways and streets, for the education of children, the care of elderly and disabled people, and food and clothing for the children of those who are not able to provide those things for their children. So on this day, I choose to celebrate all of the good things our taxes make possible through our working together in this United States.

JONATHAN

Hi, I’m Jonathan Crabtree, Pastor for Student Ministry at Central – a United Methodist Community. I recently cut my hair. So if this is your first time to see me, then what do you think? Well a long time ago, I decided to be me, and sometimes that can be difficult because I’m the only one who can do that. We are all unique, original, and marked by the Creator of the Universe – God. We are God’s creation, so we owe it to ourselves and to God to simply be “me.”

You have so much to offer the world with your words, time, and opportunities – and once we use any or all of these, we can never get them back. Jesus said, “To whom much is given, much is required.” We have the gift of life; therefore, we should give that gift to others by being ourselves – as unique and original as we were created. Today, be yourself, and seek a relationship with the Living God and other followers of Jesus in order to discover the fullness of who we were created to be.

JOHN

Good Morning! I’m John Branning, Lead Pastor of Central United Methodist Church. Every follower of Jesus is required to have a set of priorities that will fulfill our commander’s intent.
Most people’s priorities are designed to accomplish a task or life goal that they have instead of influencing others to follower Jesus.

Paul tells Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:4, not to get distracted by the world, because a good soldier cannot allow himself to embrace the world’s view of what life is about. Instead, he tells him to strive to please the officer who enlisted him by having a single priority and that is to be a good soldier in every aspect.

You are constantly being encouraged to care more about civilian affairs than the spiritual journey you are on, and if you are not careful, you will stop being a soldier and return to civilian life. You have been bought with a price and have been given the title of follower. Listen to the call of our commander, and let us make sure that our priority is to be a capable, proficient, and skilled warrior for his kingdom.

SABRINA

We often pray The Lord’s Prayer. “Give us this day, our daily bread” Those

words really struck home to me the other day as I read a quote from C.S. Lewis.

“Never, in peace or war, commit your virtue or your happiness to the future.

Happy work is best done by the man who takes his long-term plans somewhat

lightly and works from moment to moment ‘as to the Lord.’

It is only our daily bread that we are encouraged to ask for. The present is the

only time in which any duty can be done or any grace received.”  TODAY is all

we are to ask for - Give us TODAY, what we need for TODAY. While we have to

be prepared, how much simpler, more free, would our lives be if we did not

borrow the stresses and problems from tomorrow before the sun ever rises on

tomorrow? God gives us strength, grace and perseverance for today.  Find

comfort and peace in knowing that the God of the universe holds you and your

day in the palm of His great hand.  Whatever comes your way TODAY, your

needs will be met. Will it be easy? Maybe so, maybe not - but at the end of your

day, you can know that God has walked through it with you.

KRISTINA

Good Morning! I am Kristina Crabtree, Minister of Spiritual Formation at Central United Methodist Church. Have you ever read the book of Ezekiel? It is a very interesting book to read. If you have never read it, I encourage you too! When you read it, you will encounter a lot of sinful acts from the Israelites and you will see God moving through the prophet words of Ezekiel to connect with his people.

I noticed a reoccurring phrase that showed up a lot. “Then they will know I am Lord.” That got me to thinking; surely the Israelites of all people should know that God is Lord. God led them out of Egypt, provided them food and water in the wilderness, provided the way with Smoke and Fire, and led them into the promise land. Surely they knew him as Lord.

Well, they chose the world, over and over again before God. God himself was never enough. Idolatry was their weakness. I ask you, people of God, do you know that He is Lord? What I mean by that question is a transformational knowing. Do you know Jesus as Lord because he has transformed you through his very spirit? It is a knowing that will forever change you. I hope you have a great day!

JONATHAN

Hi, I’m Jonathan Crabtree, Pastor for Student Ministry at Central – a United Methodist Community. I enjoy writing and receiving hand-written notes of encouragement. I think there’s a special moment when we read a hand-written note because that person took time to write it. It’s simple, yet it captures the love of the friendship and relationship. Have you ever been praying to God and wondered, “How exactly do I pray?” Thankfully, Jesus gives us a model of prayer.

I encourage you to read this prayer found in Matthew 6:9 or Luke 11:2. Pray this prayer, and use it as a guide. It’s simple, yet, it captures the love of the friendship and relationship between Jesus and God – likewise it teaches us, followers of Jesus, how to pray. Join us at Central as we journey together and learn to pray.

BOB

Good morning! This is Bob Peden of Central - A United Methodist Community in downtown Meridian.

Did you know that if you pass your days mumbling, "I'll never make a difference; I'm not worth anything," guess what? You'll be correct, and you will be sentencing yourself to a life of gloom without parole!

When you do that, you're questioning God's judgment. Psalm 139 says you were "fearfully and wonderfully made." The apostle Paul said it this way:  For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

You matter to God! And you matter to the Central Community. Though we are not perfect, and so, do not always live out our caring as God would have us to do.

Central is a community that cares for one another and that cares for the world. We believe that life is better connected to God and connected to others. I invite you to connect with us and to connect with God in a more meaningful way than you have ever connected before.

KRISTINA

Good Morning, my name is Kristina Crabtree, Minister of Spiritual Formation at Central United Methodist Church. As humans, we have a longing that is natural to our being. I call that a longing to find our true-self. We might not even realize that we are searching but we are. I believe it is a part of our nature as humans created in the image of God. We desperately long for that completeness, wholeness that humanity had before the fall. But, at the same time, we struggle with thinking of ourselves, as if thinking of self is the carnal sin of all sin. But as David Benner says, “Christian spirituality has a great deal to do with self, not just God.”

As Christians who strive so hard to know everything about God, I believe we have forgotten to discover who God has created us to be. Our identity is at the core of who we are; but have you ever thought about where your identity comes from? Identity is never simply a creation. It is a discovery. So I encourage you today, take that negative thought of thinking of your self out of your head and starting discovering who you are and who you were created to be. Have a great day!

GLENDA

Good Morning: Recently during the children's sermon on Sunday morning, we tried to measure God's love. We tried a measuring cup, but found that the Bible says that God loves us so much that our cup overflows…so a cup wouldn't do. We tried a measuring tape, but the Bible says that God's love for us is higher than the heavens...so a measuring tape wouldn't do. We measure time with a watch so we tried that. However, the Bible says God's love is everlasting....so a watch wouldn't do.

John 3:16 starts like this: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only son....” How can you measure a love like that??? You can't. So, I want you to think about God's sacrifice for us and know that no-one on this earth loves you more than God loves you. Let's love Him back and try really hard to be the son or daughter He wants us to be. Have a wonderful day!

DENNIS

Good morning everyone. I am Dennis Gossett with Central United Methodist Church. When I was a senior in high school, a football recruiter stopped by the school to visit with me. However, I had left earlier in the day and was not there. Upon finding out, I was so disappointed that I missed this coach. I really could not believe that this college football coach came to see me. I just knew that this had to be a mistake.

Maybe, you too, can recall a time when you have missed out on an opportunity. Did you know there is a story in the bible about one of the disciples who missed out on seeing Jesus after he resurrected from the dead? His name was Thomas, and he could not believe that Jesus had visited the other disciples while he was out. Finally, Jesus returned and proved to Thomas that he was alive. Just like Thomas, we can have our doubts about Jesus. However, Jesus wants to make himself known to you. He wants you to have personal experience of his presence in your life.

I invite you to come and worship Jesus with us at Central. Who knows, you just may encounter him here. Have a blessed day.

SABRINA

Happy April Fools’ Day! The custom of playing practical jokes on friends has

been part of our traditional celebration dating as far back as ancient Rome. It is

said to be related to the vernal equinox and the coming of spring - when nature

fools us with the sudden changes between showers and sunshine, hot and cold.
In 1957, the British Broadcasting Network showed the Swiss harvesting

spaghetti from trees. A lot of people called wanting spaghetti trees of their own.
Or there was the report on television about the invention of dehydrated water,

claiming that all you had to do was shine ultraviolet light onto a powder and it

turned into water.
Before we go around condemning others, we must humbly admit that we all (at

one time or another) have played the fool. We have fallen victim to doing foolish

and unwise things. The result? Our lives had become enmeshed in the

consequences of the domino effect of reaping that which we had sown.
So FOR today may our prayer be, “Please help us to follow in your footsteps, be

wise and, above all, kind in all that we do and most certainly in all that we say.
