DENNIS

Good morning everyone. I'm Dennis Gossett of Central United Methodist Church. This is the last day of the year. At midnight, we will begin a new journey into 2014. Most of us have been working on our New Year's Resolutions; getting in shape, eating less, or saving more. These are all positive things, but can become impossible to achieve without the right preparation, support, and effort.

Often our plans fail, because we failed to plan. Doing things alone makes it easy to become discouraged and give up. At Central, we are taking a different approach. Our New Year's Resolution is to grow disciples of Jesus Christ through worship, relationships, and service. There are no solo acts here. We understand how difficult growing in the faith can be. That is why we believe it is imperative to surround one's self with the community of Christ. In 2014, life will be better connected.

BOB

Good morning. This is Bob Peden of Central United Methodist Church. Over and over again Jesus tells his disciples and not incidentally us, to be ready for his return at any moment.

Many in our time and in almost every time since Jesus' life on earth have tried to predict when Jesus will return so as to know when to be ready and perhaps not have to be quite so ready today. But Jesus not only comes at the end of time, but he comes to us each day, in the guise of a stranger, a person who is ill or who needs an encouraging word or a gentle touch. Do I treasure these opportunities as an encounter with Christ? Lord, make me vigilant so that I may recognize you in others. CS Lewis says there are no ordinary mortals. Everyone is an extra-ordinary immortal destined for eternal joy. Let me be reverent to them all.

DENNIS

Good morning everyone. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas with family and friends. It is hard to imagine that another year is about to be over. As I get older, I often wonder “Where has the time gone?” It seems like it was just yesterday that we were brining in 2013.

Time has a funny way of getting away from us. It tends to march on, with or without us. Sometimes, we can become too focused on minor things that we really miss out on the major ones. If we are not careful, those important moments can fly by without us ever noticing them.

When it comes to faith, there may be some of you who are thinking you have all the time in the world. Well, just like the passing of 2013, your time may pass you by if you're not paying attention. I invite you to not wait any longer and allow this time to connect you with the Risen Savior and with others. I'm Dennis Gossett for Central United Methodist Church.

SABRINA

Maybe more than a new calendar marked Jesus' birth. Could it be that postpartum depression began then as well? After all, the day after Jesus was born - the angels were gone, gossip from lowly shepherds of this new king was being spread amongst commoners, the wise men were yet afar off, the smelly shepherds were back with the sheep and there was this newborn housed with animals in an overcrowded city.

Fortunately, we know “the rest of the story” but maybe we too have a bit of a letdown after Christmas. Most everything including friends and family are gone, and with the exception of a few unwanted pounds and mounds of used wrapping paper, maybe even the joy of Christmas is gone as well.

But that tiny baby, born in a manger is ALWAYS with us - no need for a letdown, no pos Christmas depression - the Reason for the Season is also the Reason for our today! Happy Day AFTER Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

The other night someone asked me the question, what does Christmas mean to me? It means the sound of salvation army bell ringers at the mall, the smell of goodies baking in the oven, passing cars on the interstate with packages piled up in the back of them, hugging kinfolks, some of them you enjoy hugging and some of them you don't, eating too much, my cell phone ringing, “Hey, Daddy, I found the perfect gift for Momma, can I buy it and charge it to you?” It means kids screaming, “Daddy, they won't let me hang ornaments on the tree. Make brother let me put the angel on top of the tree.”

Yes, Christmas is a fun time in the Cain home. But last Friday, JD came home from the mall and asked if he could give one of his presents to a friend whose family doesn't have very much. He said the child wouldn't even get on Santa's lap, because he didn't have money to buy his mom something if Santa brought him a gift.

That is what Christmas is to me, giving to someone who needs it a little more than you do, making the world a better place one person at a time. After all, isn't that what God did so many years ago with the gift of the Christ child?

BOB

Good morning. Hear the story. Ages ago God created us from nothing more than an idea in His head. He wanted us to love Him and enjoy being in his presence but from the very beginning we rebelled against God. Over and over again he forgave us and called us back to him until finally he did something truly remarkable. He came to us himself, His light shone to show us the way home, and he gave himself for us in order to win us back.

That is the story we celebrate today in, carols, in Bible stories, in prayer, in Holy communion. If you want to hear the story again and are not part of a church that gathers today, I invite you to Central United Methodist Church. We will gather at 12 noon and again at 4 pm and 6 pm. Everyone is invited. Central is located in downtown Meridian between 22 and 23rd Avenues at 10th Street.  I can't wait to hear the story again.

JIM WALL

Good Morning!

There are two ways of looking at the future.  You can worry yourself silly or you can place your future in the hands of God and walk forward with confidence and courage.  It isn't that God wants you to be unconcerned about the future.  Jesus urged His disciples to plan and prepare for what was ahead of them.  But he also told them not to be consumed with worry.

Whether you are five or ninety-five, God has a wonderful plan for your life.  God wants you to fearlessly face each day with your hand in His.  Don't allow the past or what might happen to rob you of your sense of excitement and anticipation.

Corrie Ten Boom said, “Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.”  Go forward into the future knowing God is as near as your breath.

GLENDA

Good Morning:

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulders; and his name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. Isaiah said those words approximately 750 years before the birth of Christ. That prophecy came true and the birth of that child is the reason we celebrate Christmas each year. Christmas is not just a holiday. It is a holy day. Without Christ, we wouldn't have this holiday. Without Christ, we wouldn't have the promise of eternal life. Without Christ, our sins wouldn't be forgiven. Without Christ there would be no hope. Remember that as you celebrate Christmas this year. Merry Christmas to you all.

RAY DURDEN

Luke 17:20 Jesus replied, "The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation.

Finding the glory of God is very simple. The glory of God is found within you because that's where the Kingdom of God is.  God's contact point is within your heart and soul. How God can be living and alive in you and be everywhere else is a mystery, but when you're lost in spirit and in heart, you can find Christ living within you.

To find God, you could look up into the sky but the essence of Him and the reality of Him is already inside of you. His love, grace, and glory can also be made to come alive inside every other person on earth. To find the glory of God turn your spiritual "antenna" in His direction within you. Every time you make the effort to find God and His glory He will answer and respond…in your life and in the lives of others.

John

Good Morning! I'm John Branning the Lead Pastor of Central United Methodist Church. We are only a week away from Christmas, and I am more excited than my three sons. I love the decorations, music, and all the memories that are associated with this season.

As a child, my Father would tell me about Christmas when he was a boy. He was raised at the end of the great depression and money was scarce. He would tell me about the excitement of getting oranges, apples, and different types of nuts. A pocket knife was the prized gift that would be waiting for him. As he would tell me these stories, you could tell that they were wonderful memories.

This year we need to spend more time making memories than we do spending money. Jesus will arrive to save us from our sins in a manger and stable not a penthouse suite. He will be surrounded by shepherds and farm animals and not Christmas trees and presents. Do something special this year and make a new memory that will last a lifetime with those you love.

BOB

Good morning. Christmas is almost here. Lights and Christmas trees, creches and garlands, glitter and sparkle abound all over Meridian. It truly is a wonderful time of the year. But as we near Christmas day we should also focus on what is real about Christmas.

Electric lights and glitter are 20th century inventions. Christmas trees and lighted candles are 19th century additions to Christmas. The first Creche is credited to St. Francis of Assisi in the 13th century.

None of the sparkle and celebration was a part of the first Christmas. Even the two supernatural phenomena from the Biblical accounts - the angels appearance and the star the wise men followed - were so subtle as to be noticed by only a few.

This is Bob Peden of Central United Methodist Church. Read the nativity stories fresh again. I believe you will be struck, as I have, by the truly amazing fact that God himself choose to enter our world in a most common and ordinary way.

SABRINA

Christmas is THE time to realize God's miraculous works through the ordinary.  Take David. The youngest son of a large family, small for his age. Nothing special.  The old priest Zechariah and his wife, Elizabeth. From a small town, not wealthy, no children. Yet, it was this old faithful couple that God chose to raise John the Baptist.

Joseph and Mary were ordinary. No great wealth or power, but rather they came from an extremely small village other Jews overlooked.

I think this is part of the Christmas story that gives us hope. When we evaluate ourselves against the standard the world uses, we realize that we are not superstars. There are people who are more attractive, have higher IQs, more money. But God sees us in a different light. God desires people who live by faith and seek to serve Him. God wants to use ordinary people, people like you and me, to change the world.

Go today allowing God to do the EXTRAORDINARY in your life! It is indeed what Christmas is about. An ordinary baby who forever changed the world!

John

Good Morning! I'm John Branning the Lead Pastor of Central United Methodist Church. I recently read that in 2017 energy drink production and sales will be a 21 billion dollar industry. The reason for the growth in this industry is due to the fact that the average American feels drained and exhausted trying to keep up with the stress of life. We feel torn between work, our families and hundreds of other obligations that we have.

The fact is that we all need rest. We need to schedule time to stop and enjoy life. God designed us to be a people that once a week will stop from our labors and simply worship and rest. There isn't any energy drink that exists that can refresh you and prepare you for the week ahead like a day of worship. I hope that you will make time this week to attend your church and to be still for just a little while. If you don't have a home church then come and worship with us at Central United Methodist and enjoy the refreshment of rest.

SABRINA

December is here with all the joys of Christmas.  But what is the REAL meaning of Christmas? Is it gifts under a tree, Christmas lights, cards in the mail, dinners with family and friends, shouts of Merry Christmas to those who pass us in the streets? Is this really Christmas?

For many people, Christmas is a time of sorrow.  They don't have extra money to buy gifts for their children, family, and friends.  Many are sad because of loved ones who will not be with them. Turkey dinners may be a wish and not reality. Yet Christmas is still a season of great joy. It can be a time of healing and renewed strength. Christmas is when we celebrate the birth of the Christ child. God sent His Son, Jesus, to be born in a world desperate for hope.

Go today knowing if you are desperate, there is a God who loves you so He gave His only Son for you. If you are blessed, take today as an opportunity to be the hands and feet of the Christ Child to someone in need.  And remember, we are each blessed by the birth of a tiny baby boy over 2000 years ago.

DENNIS

Merry Christmas everyone. I am Dennis Gossett of Central United Methodist Church.  As a young boy, I remember getting a brand new yellow bike. I was so excited; it had a red seat with red tires. This was my most prized possession. Over the next few months, my new bike did not look so new anymore. It had a few scratches on it. The chain was rusting and the grips on the handle bars were tearing. I was not taking as good of care of it as in the beginning. Soon, I started leaving it out in the weather. By the time summer rolled around, I had lost all interest and was hoping for a new one.

This time with the bike is a lot like our adult life experiences. There are new things in our life that seem great for a moment, but soon we lose interest as it gets a little worn. We become bored and desire something newer.

Jesus wants us to experience a faith that will always be Renewing. Come and be a part of us, as we experience the newness of life together.

RAY DURDEN

“Deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil, but counselors of peace shall have joy." Proverbs 12:20

David's sin with Bathsheba was perhaps the lowest point of his life. Yet rather than immediately repenting and seeking God's forgiveness, he began devising plans to cover his sin. He went to great lengths to try to make it look like Uriah was the father of Bathsheba's baby, and when that didn't work he arranged Uriah's murder. He devoted great effort and used his office for his cover up, and in human terms he did a pretty good job covering his tracks, “But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.”

No sin is ever hidden from the eyes of God. We may cover sin from the eyes of men for weeks or months or even years, but no sin stays hidden forever. God has set an unchangeable law into the foundation of the world--the law of sowing and reaping.
"Be sure your sin will find you out.”

Good Morning!

My uncle, John Robert, owned and operated a country store in Kosciusko, MS, called Cain's Mercantile and Grocery. He had a son who graduated from MSU with a degree in accounting before coming back to Attala County to manager his daddy's holdings, which were now rather vast.

One Saturday John Robert got up and went down to the store to see how things were going with his son in charge. Pulling up in the parking lot he noticed a big sign on the door that read, “Closed for inventory.”  He almost had a heart attack. He hadn't been closed in 35 years. He let himself in the empty store and asked his boy, “What's going on?” Junior said, “Daddy, we're taking inventory. They taught me this in accounting” His daddy said, “Let me tell you something about inventory. You get that ladder, look on the top shelf and you'll see what's left of a bolt of flannel cloth. Your momma and I started over 40 years ago with that one bolt of cloth. That's your inventory. Everything else is profit. Now get them doors open and go to work!”

Take a moment to inventory all God has blessed you with? And now take that inventory and get to work!

It is Christmas time in the city.  Meridian's annual Downtown Christmas Parade will take place tomorrow evening at 5:30 p.m.  Because at Central we are excited to be a part of Downtown Meridian, we once again open the doors of our church to the community.  We will open at 5:00, offering homemade soup, hot chocolate, popcorn, train rides for the children, along with a visit from Santa, and we will show the SEC Championship game on the big screen in our Fellowship Hall.

For those of you with parade participants, Central is a block away from the end of the parade! Join us tomorrow evening as we celebrate the sights, sounds, and smells of the season!

If you do not have a church home, we invite you to return and worship with us on Sunday morning.  We have two services...a Contemporary Service at 8:30, followed by Sunday School, and a Traditional Worship Service at 10:55.  We hope to see you tomorrow evening...and maybe again on Sunday!  Have a blessed day!

Good Morning!

As we move from fall into winter many of us have begun to feel the effects of the different viruses and illness that seem to tag along with the changing of the seasons.

With many of my co-workers having missed work because of a virus that has been going around, I have tried to take extra precautions to avoid catching it. Every time someone would come into my office, I would spray Lysol disinfectant in the air after they left; and after shaking hands with someone, I would try to use a hand sanitizer before going back to work.

After one particular encounter last week, I reached for the bottle of Germ-X on my desk when the person I had shaken hands with said, “Oh, don't worry about that. I've been sick, but I'm not contagious because I caught it from someone else.”

Unfortunately for many of us our faith can be described the same way. We aren't “infectious” because we never had a direct relationship with Jesus Christ but have been living off the faith of others. Let me encourage you to go straight to the source through prayer today, you'll be glad you did!

BOB

Good morning. This is Bob Peden of Central United Methodist Church. At Central we are preparing to celebrate a date the church has designated as birth of God into our world. What in English we call Christmas. This season of preparation is called Advent. A time to prepare for the arrival of God himself. One of the ways we prepare our hearts for his arrival is by participating in Christmas celebrations centered around music and the telling of the Biblical stories for Christmas.

The December plan to join us Sunday December 8th at 8:30 as the Praise Band presents a worship service of Contemporary Christian music and on December 15th at 10:55 as the Sanctuary Choir presents a traditional service of lessons and carols. That evening at 6:00, we will present a special Christmas pageant written by a British women in the midst of World War II. And be sure to join us at one of the Christmas Eve services. 12noon, 4 pm or 6pm.

In all these wonderful ways we prepare our hearts for the coming of Jesus Christ into our lives.

DENNIS

Good Morning
everyone. Once again, it is that time of the year when Christmas music is in the air, trees are decorated in living rooms, and sweet treats are on kitchen counters. It is also the time of year we give gifts to those we love….and even to those who are hard to love. Along with all of this good cheer, let us not forget the real reason we celebrate this most sacred time.

Jesus Christ came into the world, not as an all-powerful ruler, but rather as a vulnerable infant; born unto a virgin, in a smelly cattle barn. His presence in our world is the most wonderful gift of all. Jesus has been through the same ebbs and flows of life that we experience. He came for us, so we could have life and share it with others.

This is Dennis Gossett of Central United Methodist Church wishing everyone a very merry Christmas.

GLENDA

Good Morning:

Today I want to tell you about some Christmas traditions. First of all, it's the most important birthday of all times and it's celebrated all over the world. It's a celebration that brings joy, gifts, and the singing of traditional worship songs while feasting with joyous connection to family and friends. Did you know the white lights on the Christmas tree represent the purity of Christ and the heart that lives for Him? And how about the holly. It's an evergreen plant and it represents eternal life. This is what we are promised through Jesus Christ. Candles represent the light and life of Christ that shines upon all men. One thing that Jesus loved to do when He was on earth was eat with those He loved, thus the tradition of family feasting. And those wonderful Christmas Carols draw loved ones together and fills the heart with praise for our Savior.

It is purely about bringing Jesus honor and loving those whom God has blessed us with. My hope for you this Christmas is that you remember that Jesus is the reason for the season. Merry Christmas!

SABRINA

Thanksgiving has come and gone, and this Sunday marks the first Sunday in Advent.  Over 2000 years ago, the world waited generations for prophesy to be filled through the birth of Jesus.  WE have this time of Advent to wait and prepare for the CELEBRATION of our Lord and Savior, all the while remembering, that because of that birth over 2000 years ago, our world forever changed.

Close your eyes for a moment, take a deep breath, and thank God for the many, many blessings He has bestowed upon you.  As you continue through your day, waiting in lines, in traffic, remember this IS a time of joyful anticipation of a birth that was foretold to a people desperate for hope and salvation. Is it really any different today? “For unto US was born a Savior, Christ the Lord.” Go today in peace and joy.

JOHN

Good Morning! I'm John Branning the Lead Pastor of Central United Methodist Church. Let me begin first by wishing a Happy Thanksgiving to all of you in the Meridian area. Many today will gather with family and friends and celebrate this holiday with plenty of food and laughter. We may even have a little nostalgia today as we remember past Thanksgivings and the wonderful memories that we have of the people and places that made it so special. However, the true purpose of this holiday is for us to stop and give thanks to our God for all the blessings that he has given unto us. We have been blessed beyond measure, and I hope we are able to see all that God has given us.

I do hope that this year we will not hoard these blessing for ourselves. We should share with others that have less than us. Let us share a meal, a prayer and a good word to those in need. We are commanded to love God and our neighbor as ourselves. I invite you to come live a life that is thankful with us at Central.

Good Morning:

Did you know that if you have food in your refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep you are richer than 75% of this world? If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish, you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy?

If you woke up this morning with more health than illness, you are more blessed than many who will not survive this day. If you have never experienced fear in battle, loneliness of imprisonment, agony of torture, or pangs of starvation, you are ahead of 700 million people in this world. If you can attend a church or synagogue without fear of harassment, arrest, torture, or death, you are envied by and more blessed than three billion people in the world. You didn't know you were so blessed, did you? Before you walk out your door, stop, count your blessings, and say “Thank you, God.” Have a wonderful day!

Good Morning!

A man pulls up to an old country store on the outskirts of town, hops out of his car & asks the old man sitting out front,” How are the people in this town, old man?"
The old man looked at the stranger and asked,” How were the people in the town you just left?" The man looked at him with a puzzled expression and replied,” They were mean and hateful people, hard to work and live with.  We were glad to get out of that place." The old man nodded his head &replied,” Well, that's how you'll find the people in this town."

The man drove away & the old man settled back down in his rocking chair. A little while later another car pulls up and a man gets out and says,” Excuse me sir, but how are the people in this town?" The old man looked at the stranger and asked," How were the people in the town you just left?" The stranger smiled answering,” They were warm-hearted and kind, always willing to help a person out. We hated to leave." The old man nodded & replied,” That is how you'll find the people in this town."

Luke 6:31 shares this basic message as the 'golden rule.” Changing surroundings will do nothing to change our problems unless we are willing to first change ourselves.

GLENDA

Good Morning:

How does the bible describe “hell”? A place of torment, a place of wailing and gnashing of teeth, a place of everlasting fire and everlasting destruction, a place you don't want to be.

In Mark Chapter 5, there's the story of the man possessed with legions of demons. Those demons recognized Jesus immediately and begged him not to send them to hell. You see, even demons are afraid of hell. I'm convinced that we don't hear enough about the dangers of hell and that's why there's so much crime these days. You want to save your children? Get them in church. Surround them with God's love and others who love God. Give them something concrete to believe in. Give them a strong foundation and they'll be able to handle anything life throws at them as they grow older. Teach them that there are two paths to eternal life...the one to Heaven and the one to Hell. It's up to you, parents, to make sure your child is on the right path. Think about that and have a wonderful day!

Good Morning:

Matthew 10:29-30 tells us: “Not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So, don't be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.”

It's a little-known fact, but every day the average person loses about a hundred hairs from his or her head. If you rolled that up over a year's time, that would make a pretty big hair ball. Now if you multiply that by the other 6 billion or so people in the world, well....that's a pretty hairy thought, don't you think? But here's the really amazing thing: Somehow God numbers and keeps track of every single hair on every single person in the whole wide world. You see, God loves you so much that he cares about every detail of your life--even the number of hairs on your head. Think of that each time you brush your hair. Have a wonderful day.

BOB

Good morning. This is Bob Peden of Central United Methodist Church. Our culture loves to rank things. Just take a look at all the top ten lists that are published. There are lists ranking the best -- or worst -- songs, movies, jobs, places to live, and things to see. We rank people too. There are lists covering looks, bodies, popularity, effectiveness, and abilities. It even happens when thinking about God.

We can always find someone we think is worse than us. It is as if God is going to let people into heaven based on some kind of top ten list where the goal is to be better than other people so that you make the cut. And there is the problem. No one is good enough to live with God forever. Not me. Not you. Not anyone. That is why God sent his son Jesus to take away our sins. And that is why there are only two places on God's list: those who trust Jesus, and those who do not.

Join us at Central as together we strive to trust Jesus more and more each day.

JOHN

Good Morning! I'm John Branning the Lead Pastor of Central United Methodist Church. Do you consider yourself a blessed person? When, I mention that to most people our minds drift most often to our financial situation. We seem to equate blessing with wealth. I will not argue that all the wealth that we have in our life is from God and some people do have more than others. However, we seem to be forgetting the little things in life that are such a blessing to us.

When we awaken to a new day that is a blessing!  When we are able to enjoy a cup of coffee with someone that we love, surely that too is a blessing. I personally love to hear the laughter that comes from my children and when one of them says Dad I sure do love you.

Life is full of blessings, and I hope that you can count them one by one. I invite you to visit us at Central and celebrate your blessings with us.

Good Morning!

“Eighth grade, away football game. There's a chill in the air, mouthpieces and Gatorade. My shoulder pads are too small. My helmet's way too big. I haven't touched the ball. O God, please make the coach put me in.” -- Wes King

How many of us have ever felt that way? It may not have been at a football game or even a sporting event, but almost all of us have felt the way Wes King felt when he wrote his song entitled “Second String.” Unfortunately, the second stringer is rapidly disappearing in our society. No longer is it enough to belong to something greater than ourselves. Sacrifice for the common good or striving to achieve a common goal are no longer important in this “I, me” world. Playing time and statistics now overshadow team goals and won loss records as everyone strives to be in the spotlight.

Though many of us have had the privilege to be starters or even stars in one area or another while growing up, eventually adolescence is over and we begin jobs, and the chances to run with the ball or sing the major solo are replaced with the everyday affairs of raising a family, keeping a job, & maintaining a home. These are the lessons of the team player. The one who kept showing up for practice every day whether he got to play much on Friday night or not. These are the lessons of life.

DENNIS

Good Morning everyone. I'm Dennis Gossett, Associate Pastor at Central United Methodist Church. Well, the holidays are right around the corner. In just a few weeks many of us will be traveling to see our families for Thanksgiving. We will finally get to talk with those whom we haven't seen in a while. We can catch up on things like how work has been, what sports our kids have been involved with, and where we went on vacation.

It is truly a blessing to have people around you to share life with. They stick beside you when the-going-gets-tough and they are there to help celebrate your successes.

Comedian Milton Berle once said, that “laughter is an instant vacation.” I hope the time you spend with your family and friends will be filled with laughter and good times. From your friends at Central United Methodist Church, Happy Thanksgiving.

Nehemiah's countrymen, the Jews, were living in destitution. The once powerful walls of Jerusalem

were little more than scattered rubble and her great gates that once protected the people and welcomed

their friends were reduced to char & ash.  This broke him, and he began praying earnestly for God to

work mightily on the Jew's behalf. However, Nehemiah didn't stop there; rather, he started planning

for the day when God would answer his prayer.

Many of us wait for God to work and answer prayer, like Nehemiah, but unlike him, we aren't

prepared for when he does. God uses that time of waiting to prepare us, which he did with Nehemiah.

Nehemiah served king Xerxes as a cupbearer, a trusted position. The king, sensing his brokenness,

asked him, “Why is your face sad, seeing you are not sick?” Nehemiah didn't retell the sad tale, but

gave the king a well thought out solution.

Are we preparing for the day when God moves? Have we been praying for God to move in our

churches this Sunday?  Let's start planning today for our prayers to be answered, and it is my prayer to

see you in church this Sunday!

We often forget that worship is an offering of our life to God in response to His life in us.  In Exodus

34:6 we are told “God passed in front of Moses and called out, “God, God, a God of mercy and grace,

endlessly patient - so much love, so deeply true.” Hearing these words, Moses bowed his head, bent his

knee and worshiped the one who had shown His presence.

Truly, worship is the only reasonable response when we begin to know God. Worship IS indeed an

offering of our lives to God in response to God's life in us.

If you do not have a church home, I invite you to join me in worship at Central this Sunday.  We have

Contemporary Worship at 8:30… Sunday School at 9:30...Traditional worship at 10:55... Central is a

family- friendly church with two distinct styles of worship. Come...and worship...finding friendship,

fellowship, and acceptance as you worship God...the God of peace and life.

BOB

Good morning. This is Bob Peden of Central United Methodist Church. I have my very own

Smartphone. It is valuable as a means of communication with other people and for organizing my daily

life. However, I am grateful that I do not need it to talk to the most important person in my life. Jesus

taught us that in talking with God we should begin, Aour Father in heaven.@ More specifically, our

"Abba in heaven." Abba is an intimate, tender, folksy, pedestrian term, the warmest of the Aramaic

words for "father." Formality stripped away. Proximity promised. Jesus invites us to approach God like

a child approaches Daddy. No special training required. No monthly plan needed.

Stunning, don't you think, that the highest conversation in life requires nothing but an open heart and

a "Dear Father?" How gracious of God to keep it simple.

DENNIS

Good Morning. I am Dennis Gossett, the Associate Pastor at Central United Methodist Church. In the last chapter of Mark, Jesus commands his disciples to go into all the world preaching the gospel. Then he adds that certain signs would accompany them.

Often, we want to focus on the signs themselves, while forgetting the prerequisite for them. In order for anything to be tangible and real, we must be with other people. If there is to be a driving out, speaking with, picking up, and putting hands on, it will require that we be among people.

Jesus went out to where the people were so he could heal them. And that is what he is expecting out of his church. We are called to be his hands and feet.

We live in a time where the love of Christ needs to be demonstrated more than any other.

Everyone watching today is invited to come and be a part of the Christian body at Central. There is always room for more hands and feet.

John

Good Morning! I'm John Branning the Lead Pastor of Central United Methodist Church. Many people will say that today is a depressing day. After all it is the day after New Years, and we must go back to work and start all over again. Yet, it should be exciting for all of us because now we get to live out our resolutions that we made yesterday. For some the weight loss plan begins. For others, it is the year of physical fitness.
I hope that for all of us that this will be the year of our greatest spiritual moments. No matter what 2013 was like, 2014 can be completely different and new. Jesus was all about new things. He said that he came to make us new and our lives new. Yet, if this really is a new year for you then you must take different steps than the year before. Let us be intentional with our faith. Let us share it with others and offer the peace that passes all understanding. I invite you to begin again this Sunday at Central UMC with us. Have a most blessed second day today.

GLENDA

Good Morning:

When I was a little girl, we had a maid who could chew gum and make it pop as she chewed. I thought

that was the most wonderful talent for someone to have! I wanted to be able to do it, too. So, while she

ironed, I sat under the ironing board with her giving me instructions on how to chew and pop gum. I

never learned to do it. I was very disappointed because I really liked that sound. However, I learned as

I grew up that there are some things that we don't need to learn from others--no matter how much we

admire them--popping your gum was one of those things. Of course, it was my mom who taught me

that popping gum was not something a young lady should do.

My point today is that as a parent, you are the most important teacher your child can have. The Bible

says, “Train up a child in the way he should go and in his old age, he will not depart from it.” Be a

good teacher for your child and have a wonderful day!

JIM WALL

Good Morning!
A little girl's father had been seriously injured in an accident and was in the hospital.  The girl was

anxious and worried at bedtime, so she asked her mother if she could sleep with her.
In the darkness of the room, the little girl asked, “Mommy, is your face turned towards me?”  Her

mother responded, “Yes,” and soon the mother could hear the rhythmic, peaceful breathing of a little

girl asleep.
Then, the mother quietly slipped from the bed and went to the window.  She looked to the sky and

asked, “Father, is your face turned towards mine?”

Sometimes, God seems so very near, but other times, we experience uncertainty and insecurity as we

face challenges that sap our strength and test our faith.
In times of trouble, we are challenged to remember that the only true security is found in God through

Jesus Christ.  And how comforting it is to know that the Father's face is, indeed, always turned toward

us.

Nothing can ever separate you from the love of Jesus. Let this divine assurance trickle through your

mind and into your heart and soul. Whenever you start to feel fearful or anxious, repeat this

unconditional promise: “Nothing can separate me from Your Love, Jesus.”

Most of mankind's misery stems from feeling unloved. In the midst of adverse circumstances, people

tend to feel that love has been withdrawn and they have been forsaken. This feeling of abandonment is

often worse than the adversity itself. Be assured that He will never abandon any of you, not even

temporarily. He will never leave you or forsake you! His Presence watches over you continually.

Romans 8:39 says:  There is nothing in all creation that will ever be able to separate us from the love of

God which is ours through Christ Jesus our Lord.

Good Morning. As a child, I could not swim. At a local lake, I once ventured out further and further

away from a beach where my mother was seated. She warned me to not go out too much further. I

ignored her calls. Suddenly, my footing gave way and I was under the water. I began sinking under

that dark water. Fortunately, my mother was a very good swimmer; a former life guard as a young girl.

She rushed out into the deep water and reached down to save me.

Later on, she taught her son to swim. And her son was willing to learn.

The world needs more lifeguards! It needs Christians who are willing to call out to those in the deep

end and to jump in after them if one goes under.

Perhaps today, you are the one struggling to stay afloat on the stormy sea and you are sinking down.

Call out to Jesus; to the one who walks on the water, regardless of how high the waves are. I'm Dennis

Gossett, Associate Pastor, at Central UMC.

BOB

Good morning! Today is All Saints Day the day we celebrate the lives of all of God=s saints. This

Sunday at Central United Methodist Church, as in many churches, we will light candles and ring the

bells for those saints of our church who have gone on to heaven within the last year. We will also light

candles for those saints who have joined our congregation in the last year. And we will celebrate the

sainthood of us all.

For you see, the definition of a saint is not Aa dead Christian.@ Rather the definition of a saint is a

faithful, living Christian. We are all saints who believe in the saving grace of Jesus Christ and are

trying to live into his will for our lives. So, there are saints in heaven and there are saints here on earth,

and together we join with the angels in singing the praises of our God.

Join us this Sunday to be a part of that celebration at either 8:30 or 10:55. Oh, and don=t forget to move

your clock back an hour.

Jim Cain

Good Morning!

Tonight my wife will turn the lights off at the Cain home, light some candles, paint her face, and slip

into a black dress in hopes of getting some treats. No, I'm not talking about Halloween but my 21st

wedding anniversary. The celebration of a union that has withstood sickness and health, good times

and bad, forsaking all others, a union that has given me the best treats of all, my two sons. Yet, no

matter how strong our love has been over these two decades it pales in comparison to the love written

about in Romans where the author states, "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while

we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

When I married my wife I got a haircut, showered, and put on the nicest tuxedo I could find. After the

wedding we dined at a fine restaurant before departing for one of the South's most romantic cities, New

Orleans, for a few days together before the “reality” of the world set back in. Fortunately, Christ on the

other hand, took us at our worst, and loves us unconditionally forever.

In a world that is full of “tricks' and deceptions let me encourage you to latch on to the “treat” that is

Jesus, you'll be glad you did!

I have always loved fall, cool mornings, changing leaves, and the smell of fall.  This fall, however,

marks four years since my mother died, two years since my daddy died, and one year since my brother

died.  It also marks 37 years since I married my husband, 35 and 33 years since we welcomed our

daughters into this world, and six years since we were blessed with a precious granddaughter.

Fall has come to remind me of life's ebb and flow.  There is a gospel song that reminds us of God's

presence.  For the God on the mountain is still God in the valley. And the God of the good times
is still God in the bad times. The God of the day, is still God in the night.

To everything there is a season.  As sure as green leaves will turn yellow, orange and then brown, we

celebrate life and hurt with death, we have mountains and valleys, and God is with each of us each step

of our way -  Winter Spring, Summer, AND Fall.

Watch your words diligently. When you speak carelessly or negatively, you damage others as well as

yourself. This ability to verbalize is an awesome privilege, granted only to those created in God's

image. You need help in wielding this mighty power responsibly.

Though the world applauds quick-witted retorts, God's instructions about communication are quite

different: Be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry.

You should discipline yourself to pray--“Help me, Holy Spirit”--before answering the phone, and you'll

realize the benefits of this discipline. Simply apply the same discipline when communicating with

people around you. If they're silent, pray before speaking to them. If they're talking, pray before

responding. These split-second prayers put you in touch with God's spirit.  Your speaking then comes

under the control of the Spirit. As positive speech patterns replace your negative ones, the increase in

your Joy will amaze you.

John Branning

Good Morning! I'm John Branning, Lead Pastor of Central United Methodist Church. The season of fall

reminds us not only of the harvest of spring and summer but that nature is beginning to take a rest.

Soon all the leaves on the trees will have changed colors and fallen off, and the grass that was so green

in summer will fade away.

Just like in nature all of us are in need of rest. Jesus shared with his disciples in Matthew 11:28 that he

desire to give them rest from the burdens that they carried.

Most of us feel the pressure everyday as we try to fit everything that we are obligated to do and need to

do into each day. God created Sunday for all of us so that we could have rest and spiritual renewal. I

hope that Sunday is a special day for you and your family as you center yourself for the Monday that is

coming.

I invite you to start your week with us at Central at either our 8:30 contemporary service or 10:55

traditional. Come and experience rest.

Good morning! I would like to take today to invite you to an evening of fun and fellowship.  This

Sunday evening from 4:30 - 6:00 p.m., on 10th Street between 22nd and 23rd Avenue, Central will host

our fourth annual Trunk or Treat! Our church family and friends decorate their cars and trunks,

offering games and candy at each venue.  Family- friendly costumes, face painting, music, hamburgers,

hotdogs, cotton candy, snow cones - all the makings of a small town street carnival will fill the air in

downtown Meridian.

We do this as a time of both fellowship and as an extension of God's love within our community. At

Central we value family - whether you are a family of one or ten, we extend an invitation to you for

both Trunk or Treat or to worship with us on any given Sunday.

For more information about Central, or about this Sunday's event, you can visit our website at

John Branning

Good Morning! I'm John Branning, Lead Pastor of Central United Methodist Church. One of my

favorite pass times during the fall is to watch college football games. I love every minute of it as I

watch my team run onto the field and watch the expectation of victory from the players. What is more

exciting though is to watch the expressions of the fans during a game. They yell and scream, paint

themselves in their team colors; and win or lose, they are emotionally tied with the players on the field.

I have often wondered if we as Christians' would become as passionate as college football fans are,

what our world would be like. I do not believe in a silent faith but a faith that is worth living and

sharing. You don't have to paint yourself in your church colors, but we must be just as passionate about

sharing the Gospel as we are the college football team we love.

I invite you to reconnect your passion and faith with us at Central United Methodist Church.

DENNIS

Good Morning. As a little boy, my extended family would always get together during the summer

months. Once, we gathered at the lake to play softball. Adults and kids alike were so enthralled with

the game that no one noticed the dark cloud on the horizon. I readied myself in the outfield, waiting on

my uncle at bat to pop a fly ball in my direction. Suddenly, a bright light flashed the home plate and a

loud sizzle vibrated the air. Being dazed by the excitement, I did not know what to do, as people were

rushing to aid my uncle. Finally, I heard my aunt urgently calling my name, as she motioned for me to

come to her.

Today, the church needs voices like that of my aunt, urgently calling out. The church needs people who

are willing to speak Godly truth in the midst of all the confusion of this age. Will you be the voice that

calls us out of the haze; motioning us to the safe haven of Christ? I'm Dennis Gossett, Associate Pastor

at Central UMC.

GLENDA

Good morning: We are a bunch of whiners. Things don't go the way we think they should, and we

more or less give up. For instance, we say “It's impossible!” but God says, “All things are possible”. We

say, “Nobody really loves me”, but God says, “I love you.” We say, “I can't do it.”, but God says, “You

can do all things”. We say, “I can't forgive myself.” God says, “I forgive you.” We say, “I'm afraid.”

God says, “I have not given you a spirit of fear.” We say, “I feel all alone.” God says, “I will never leave

you or forsake you.” So, what's the solution? A memory and attitude adjustment.

Let's remember that God is always there for us. He is our biggest cheerleader...always supporting us

and loving us. So, when we get those “down in the dump” attitudes, let's let God pull us up and change

that attitude to gratitude. Have a wonderful day!

BOB

Good morning! This is Bob Peden of Central United Methodist Church. We all struggle with the same

question in one form or another. Why am I here? Do I have a purpose? Does God have a plan for my

life? Here are 3 insights into these questions. First perhaps we are thinking too much about ourselves.

The Apostle Paul tells us not to think more highly of ourselves than we ought. Perhaps that is a way of

reminding us, it is not all about us.

Second, God=s plan for us is not a puzzle to be figured out. You are here to allow God=s glory to be

revealed in your life. That can happen in many ways. You are not expected to figure out the one and

only way God intended for you to glorify Him. Rather, glorify Him in all that you do.

Third, you were born to be you. That is where you can be your best. That is where you will flourish.

So, be who you were born to be: be you.

GLENDA

Good Morning:

Psalm 144:15 says “Happy are those whose God is the Lord.” If we have God in our lives, we should be

happy and we should show it! Did you know that just smiling at someone may brighten their day?

Here's a poem to help you understand what just a smile can do: Smiling is infectious; you catch it like

the flu. When someone smiled at me today, I started smiling, too. I passed around the corner and

someone saw my grin. When he smiled, I realized I'd passed it on to him. I thought about that smile

then I realized its worth. A single smile, just like mine, could travel round the earth.

So, if you feel a smile begin, don't leave it undetected. Let's start an epidemic quickly, and get the

world infected! Just try smiling at everyone you see today. They'll feel better and you will, too. And

maybe, just maybe, your smile will make a difference in someone's life today. Have a wonderful day!

One day, a man was late for a job interview because he couldn't find a place to park. As he circled the

block one more time, he cried out, "Please God, if you will provide a parking space, I'll be in church

every week!" Just as he spoke those words, a space opened right in front of him.  "Never mind God," he

said. "I found one."

This man exemplifies the extent of many of our prayer lives.  We often confuse our needs with our

wants, and, therefore, fail to see God's presence in our lives.
Loving parents don't give their children everything they see in a toy store, and likewise, God is not

some genie saying, "Your wish is my command."
God wants us to seek His will so we can learn to understand our needs versus our wants. When we do,

it is in that moment that we see God pour forth blessings to meet the needs of our lives.

BOB

Good morning! This is Bob Peden of Central United Methodist Church. Do you believe in God? I have

a friend who, whenever the subject of God comes up says very clearly, AI don=t believe anybody is up

there.@ As a Christian pastor I have to agree with him, on 2 counts. First, the God I know is not up

there, rather He is down here. He is active in my everyday life. He sustains my very being. He is my

constant companion. God is with us, not up there somewhere watching from afar.

Secondly, I don=t believe there is a God, I know God personally. My faith is that He will be there to

save me in my time of greatest need. But I don=t have to believe there is a God, because I know God, I

visit with him every day and depend on him for all of my needs.

So, I agree, I don=t believe there is anybody up there. I know that God is here with me in my wins and

in my losses, in my hurts, my cares, and my joys. How about you? Do you believe in God or do you

know Him?

DENNIS

Good Morning. I am Dennis Gossett, Associate Pastor at Central United Methodist Church. Do you

think it is humanly impossible to love those who hate and revile you? Yet, this is what Jesus commands

of all his disciples, to love our enemies.

You and I cannot do this on our own. Loving those who hate you can only be accomplished by the work

of faith. This means that God is the only one who is able to change our heart. His work leads us to

become engaged in the most powerful instrument in the world, and that is prayer. Through prayer we

ask for God's mercy to be upon those whom we cannot deal with, and on those who are mean and

disrespectful to us. Scripture teaches that the prayer of the righteous availth much. In other words, it

makes changes.

When we pray we are allowing God to be involved in our relationships and in every area of our lives.

Prayer not only changes circumstances, but it changes us. Have you prayed for your enemy today?

 Good Morning!
People say they want to make their own decisions and set their own course.  But being a decision maker

can be tough.  After all, the world is constantly changing.  You may have a lead on the past and the

present, but the future is anyone's guess.  Unless you happen to know the One who knows the future.
God can give you the wisdom you need to make good choices.  God can show you timeless principles

in the Bible and lead you to wise people who can help you put things into proper perspective.  And

after you've made a tough decision, God can fill your heart and mind with peace.  But, remember to use

your heart as well as your brain in your decision making.  Because, whatever you do or say affects

others.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.

John Branning

Good Morning! I'm John Branning, Lead Pastor of Central United Methodist Church. Today we

celebrate Veterans Day. On this day we remember those from every branch of service who have served

in harm's way to defend our freedom.

As a combat veteran myself having served in Iraq from 2010-11, I know what must be sacrificed to earn

the title of veteran. 21.5 million Americans can call themselves veterans and of that number 1.8 million

are under the age of 35.

Men and women of every generation have risen to the task of being defenders of freedom. It is our duty

as a nation and as the church to remember the sacrifice of those who have served on our behalf. I hope

you take a moment today and share with a veteran that you know a thank you for their willingness to

service.

As the Lead Pastor of Central United Methodist Church, I want to personally invite all Soldiers, Sailors,

Marines, and Airman and Veterans of every generation to worship with us and let us thank you for

your service.

RAY DURDEN

Contentment is difficult to define. If someone says they're content, sometimes we just think they're

lazy.  Or maybe, they are simply incompetent and are using "contentment" as their excuse for not doing

more with their life.

The Apostle Paul certainly didn't fit into any of those categories. He was a visionary and a leader. At

one time, he had material wealth and prestige but then had everything stripped away from him.  Yet, he

talked about learning to be content in life, regardless of circumstances. Paul knew how to get along

with humble means, and he also knew how to live in prosperity."

God reminds us to be content with the blessings He has given us and the ways He has blessed our

lives. When we're not content, we turn our backs on what God has given us and then miss what He is

doing in our lives! Discontentment causes us to focus on what we want. Contentment allows us to

discover God's plans for us.

Good Morning. The Bible tells us that our faith is more precious than gold because gold tarnishes and

perishes. Our culture, however, emphasizes the materialistic side of life rather than the faith that will

grant us eternal life.

How often do we push over and step on in order to get what we want! We want the bigger and better;

bigger homes, better cars, or the fastest boats.

The church is calling us to pause for a moment and consider how precious does each of us hold our

faith? Are we choosing it over the things that are perishing? Christian teaching explains that life is a

gift that must be used wisely. It should be used to build up and not tear down, to create and not

destroy, to love and not hate. Jesus said he came to us so that we may not only have life, but have it

more abundantly.

I'm Dennis Gossett, Associate Pastor, at Central United Methodist Church where we emphasize faith in

Jesus Christ that is more valuable than anything that is comprehensible in this world.

Good Morning!

The “Journal Times” of Racine, Wisconsin, published an article that gives credence to the old saying,

“Love conquers all…” especially time and distance! On August 8, 2007, Melody Kloska and Matthew

Behrs were united in marriage in a ceremony held at the wind Point Lighthouse. After the ceremony,

the couple placed a copy of their vows in a bottle and tossed it into the cool blue waters of Lake

Michigan.

A few weeks later, the couple received a letter from Fred & Lynette Dubendorf, who had found the

bottle while walking on the beach in Pentwater, Michigan, some 5 hours away on the other side of Lake

Michigan. The Dubendorf's letter explained they had found the bottle containing the vows on the

beach where they were married some 28 years before on August 18, 1979.

God in His infinite wisdom sent us a copy of His vow to be faithful. Though His vow came in the form

of a baby who grew to be the Messiah that has stood the test of time never wavering or changing in His

love for us!

John Branning

Good Morning! I'm John Branning, Lead Pastor of Central United Methodist Church. Have you ever

pondered the reach of your influence? All of us are in relationship with people that influence each day.

Our children, spouses, neighbors, and friends are all a part of our sphere of influence. Each day as we

interact with one another, we have the opportunity to spiritually influence people toward a deeper

relationship with Christ. God expects us to be salt and light in our relationships and to speak words of

kindness and to perform works of mercy. All of us are the product of relationships and the influence

that others have had on us, good or bad. I hope that today we determine to make a difference and use

our influence to offer Christ to others.

I invite you to make a difference with us at Central United Methodist Church and reach one person at a

Good Morning:

The light turned yellow and the man did the right thing, stopping at the crosswalk, even though he

could have beaten the red light by accelerating through the intersection. The lady in the car behind was

furious, honking her horn, screaming in frustration, cursing at the man in front of her. All at once, there

was a tap on her window and a police officer ordered her out of the car, handcuffed her and took her

off to jail.

Later as she was being released, the arresting officer came up to her and apologized for the mistake,

telling her that when he saw the way she was acting and noticed the bumper sticker on her car which

said “What Would Jesus Do?” and the Christian fish emblem on her trunk, he assumed that she had

stolen the car.

Here was a young woman who blatantly advertised on her car that she was a Christian, but her actions

said something entirely different. What do our actions say about us? Think about this and have a

wonderful day.

and said, “Oh that we had meat to eat! We remember the fish we ate in Egypt that cost nothing, the

cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic. But now our strength is dried up, and

there is nothing at all but this manna to look at.”

There are few things in life more repulsive than ungratefulness. Remember God's provision of manna

for the Israelites in the wilderness? This food appeared every morning, except on the Sabbath. If the

Lord had not produced the manna, people would have starved.

Oddly enough, the people weren't grateful. They bemoaned that the “fish they ate in Egypt cost

nothing”-nothing but their freedom.

Gratefulness should abound when we witness God's provision in our lives. Next time you are

compelled to complain about something, like your job, family, or anything in between, look at it in the

light of God's provision. Don't complain about your manna!

GLENDA

Good Morning:

One day a young boy was selling goods door to door to pay his way through school. He was hungry but

only had one dime left. He decided to ask for a meal at the next door. However, when the lady came to

the door, he just couldn't do it so he asked for a glass of water instead. The young woman sensing that

he was hungry, brought him a glass of milk and would not accept any pay for it.

Years later that same young woman came into a hospital with a baffling illness. Dr. Howard Kelly was

called in for the consultation. What he found was the young lady who had so generously given him that

glass of milk years before. He gave special attention to her case, she was healed, and then sent a bill.

On the bill were the words “Paid in full with one glass of milk.”

You never know when your small acts of kindness will come back around and help you or one of your

loved ones. So today, remember that Bible verse we all learned as children: “Be ye kind one to

another.” Have a wonderful day.

John Branning

Good Morning! I'm John Branning, Lead Pastor of Central United Methodist Church. Proverbs 17:22

says A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. I want to ask you a

question. What will you do this day that will positively impact those that you come in contact with? If

you don't really have an idea of how you will positively impact others today, then let me suggest that

you simply smile a lot today. I know that may sound odd to you, but when you smile other people will

smile.

Life is full of crushed spirit moments, and you will never know what another person is going through

on any given day. Therefore, it is time that we put this Proverb into action and become good medicine

for others. A smile on your face can open the door to share the good news of Jesus Christ that has given

you a reason to smile.

I invite you to worship with us at Central United Methodist Church and bring a smile with you.

SABRINA

I recently used a point in a children's moment at church that holds as much for adults as children. Do

you know the main difference in bricks and rocks?  Bricks are MAN made, rocks are GOD made.

When we build bricks in our lives, things such as money, occupation, material possessions - MAN

made ideals become our focus.  The need to CONFORM, to FIT IN becomes all too important.  2 Peter

chapter 5 reminds us that we are to be "living Rocks."

When we see ourselves as rocks, we begin to see the uniqueness in ourselves and those around us -

because just as the rocks, we are each different - a part of Gods beautiful creation; strong yet weathered.

We are also reminded that Jesus is the Corner Stone-the rock on which we stand.

Go today, embrace your ROCK STATUS and Have a blessed day!

BOB

Good morning! This is Bob Peden of Central United Methodist Church. Are we not living in exciting

times? The world is changing before our very eyes. Often those within the church see any change as a

threat. They would have the church close ranks, build up the defensive walls, and proclaim the demise

of this evil generation.

In doing so, we often drive away many whom the Lord would save. I am convinced that in times such

as this, Jesus Christ would have the churches shed their skins, tear down the walls that exist, and grow

in grace and humility. He would have us break free to celebrate the God of new beginnings.
Open up our churches to demonstrate a God of love and forgiveness.

The gospel writer John tells us, AGod sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save

the world through him.@ Our churches should reflect that Good News.

Good Morning!

“Like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to

salvation, if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord.” 1 Peter 2:2-3

Joe McKeever, the famous New Orleans cartoonist, once said he would not sketch babies when he was

doing caricatures. It wasn't that he had anything against babies but that life had not touched them yet

to the point that there was a significant difference one infant from another. They just weren't

“remarkable” in their definition.

I wonder how many of us never go beyond our “baby Christian” stage and go to heaven in an

“unremarkable stage” one no different than the other? Never realizing the incredible plans God has for

each and every one of us!

DENNIS

Good Morning. I am Dennis Gossett from Central United Methodist Church. In his epistle, the Apostle

Peter writes of encouragement to all who find themselves in the middle of life's trials.

During these times, it is easy to become cynical, which robs us of all joy. Cynicism turns a deaf ear to

the Gospel that announces good tidings to the meek, liberty to captives, and the opening of the prison

to them that are bound.
There is hope and love available to us in spite of what life tries to throw at us.

In first Peter, the Apostle goes so far as to say that the trials of faith can even be precious. See, Christ is

our hope in all things; he is our peace that somehow passes all understanding. Thus, we can cling to

faith as we would a precious stone.

You are invited to be a part of the Central United Methodist Church family; a place where you will

receive the same encouragement spoken of in Scripture.

GLENDA

Good Morning:

Recently I saw an article on the internet about questions Jesus might ask you. I can't list all of them

today, but here are a few:    If you never felt pain, then how would know that I am a Healer? If you

never had to pray, how would you know that I am a Deliverer? If you were never in trouble, how

would you know that I will come to your rescue? If I gave you all things, then how would you

appreciate them? If you were never broken, then how would you know that I can make you whole?

You get the idea. The point is that we do go through lots of experiences, both good and bad; and we

can't get through them alone. We need Jesus. Whatever you are going through today, Jesus is there for

you. Have a wonderful day!

I was in the “library” reading on my iPad early one morning when my book disappeared & suddenly I

saw my own face, and the words Face Time appeared, and there was my youngest son smiling and

waving as he said in one long sentence “Morning Dad we are getting ready to go to VBS at

grandmother's church it should be fun then we're going to Bullet's to eat and if it isn't raining p..” And

then he paused and said awkwardly, “Uh, Dad where are you?” and before I could answer my

nephew's face popped up from behind Doc it hit me I was “reading” so I pointed the screen ceiling

ward and said, “Um, guys let me call y'all back. ”

In retrospect my 1st Face Time session was like the 1st time I prayed or “Face Timed” with God.

Though I couldn't see him I had been to VBS enough in my childhood to know that he could see and

hear me perfectly. The words of that prayer have long slipped through the drain that has become my

memory, but I know that it became easier to talk to God the more I gave over to Him. And that once I

learned he was more interested in what I was telling Him than where I was or what I looked like, then

those conversations became longer and frequent as the days went by. Have you “Face Timed' with God

today? Try it; I think you'll be glad you did.

John Branning

Good Morning! I'm John Branning the Lead Pastor of Central United Methodist Church. I will never

forget that while I was stationed at COB Speicher in Tikrit, Iraq, serving as the Battalion Chaplain for

Task Force Griffin, a Soldier came to me and asked me, “Chaplain, do we really have a purpose in

life?”

Most people, I believe, come to a point where we ask ourselves if there is a point for us being here. My

answer to that Soldier is the same that I give to you today. Yes, there is a purpose for us being alive at

this specific moment in time. However, it may not be so that you will win American Idol or become

President of the United States. Our purpose for being here is spiritual, to love God and one another. We

are to show compassion and mercy; doing all the good we can for so long as we can.

You have a purpose and I invite you to journey with us at Central United Methodist Church and live

your purpose today.

BOB

Good morning! This is Bob Peden of Central United Methodist Church. New York Yankee Alex

Rodriguez recently said, "I'm fighting for my life," after his 211 game suspension from baseball for

alleged performing enhancing drug use.

Please! After signing a 275 million dollar contract, and collecting most of it, his statement is an affront

to those who face real life and death issues on a daily basis.

Bishop Grant Hagiya reminded us in a recent blog of Logan Stevenson, the 2 year old cancer patient

who recently died just days after serving as the best man at his parents= wedding. A story such as

Logan's should put into perspective A-Rod's ridiculous claim.  Logan's story should make us realize

that all of life is a gift. None of us deserve this gift of life, but God constantly gives it simply out of

God's love for us. Logan Stevenson reminds us today that God doesn't really care who wins a ballgame

but only that we can all win at life itself.

JIM CAIN

Good Morning!

Now that summer is over and the class of 2013 is safely off to college, with thank you notes written for

graduation gifts received and senior parties given, it won't be long before the parties for the class of

2014 will begin.

But before it does, let's take one last look at the summer of 2013. Most of my friends were invited to the

last party of the summer, I, however, was not. I pretended it didn't bother me since I had plans on that

date anyway. Ironically, my son got invited by the younger brother of the party host. “Even though the

party is for my brother you should come,” the boy told my son. “After all, I'm sure your Dad will be

coming.” When my son relayed the message I snapped, “Your Dad most certainly will not be going,

your Dad wasn't invited!”

The day after the party, my nephew came slowly walking in with a stack of mail and said, “I put this in

Doc's room on Wednesday when we checked it, I'm sorry Aunt Suzanne.” And there in the pile of

misplaced mail was the invitation I had been waiting on.

Now the funny thing is many of us walk around pouting all the time feeling like we haven't been

invited to God's party because of the things we've done, when in reality God has issued an invitation to

anyone willing to open the door and let him come in!

RAY DURDEN

Hebrews 12:14:  Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy.

Many influences of life separate you from God. When you are worried and full of doubt, life can seem

to have defeated you. However, you are defeated by life only if you have let yourself be separated from

God and His love. When you don't live with God's peace in your heart, you don't see God or feel His

presence within you.  To have Christ living and alive in your heart, you must seek His touch to heal

you from the wounds and hurts you suffer.

The touch of God helps you resolve conflicts and difficulties. The touch of God helps you persevere in

peace when the path of your life gets difficult to walk.  When you are persecuted, wronged, or slighted,

remain holy and next to God. When you remain holy and devout in spite of all the attacks of the

darkness against you, Christ wins and you win.

DENNIS

Good Morning. This is Dennis Gossett, Associate Pastor at Central United Methodist Church. Looking

back into the not so distant past, we find a wonderful Protestant saint named Corrie ten Boom who

suffered great trials during the Nazi occupation of Holland. The ten Boom family demonstrated the

love of Christ to all who were escaping the persecution of the Gestapo.

Eventually, their Christian love cost them everything. Both, her sister and father died in the Nazi

Concentration Camps.

The astonishing aspect of this entire story is what occurred after the occupation ended. Once Ms. Corrie

was released, she began constructing recovery centers for both victims and persecutors.

Jesus Christ came to set free all those who are oppressed and victimized. There is always an open

invitation at Central for everyone to come and experience the healing power of Christ.

SABRINA

Recently, our five- year-old grandson, Brett, was learning his books of the Bible. Beginning with the

books of Law, here is how the conversation goes. Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Ross. Ross??

No, it is Deuteronomy.  No I am going to call it Ross, Deuteronomy sounds ugly. We have no idea

where Ross came from, but I will never be able to say the books of the Bible again without Ross

coming to mind.

How many times do we as adults do the same thing in our lives?  WE decide how God intends for our

lives to be; WE make decisions based on what we want rather than putting our faith in God. WE put

names of justification on our actions, forgetting what instruction we find in Micah 6:8.  “The Lord has

shown you what is good.  He has told you what He requires of you.  To treat people fairly, love others

faithfully, and walk humbly with your God.”  We don't have to re-name, or justify anything.  God's

instruction is clear.  Go today and walk humbly with your God. Have a blessed day!
