BOB RAMBO

Hi! I’m Bob Rambo, Lead Pastor at Central United Methodist Church.

Well, here we are at year’s end. As we count down these final hours of 2011, did everything go as you expected it to this year? Did all of your plans and expectations fall into place exactly as you had hoped? Or did life “zig” when you expected it to “zag”? Chances are that some things about this year didn’t work out exactly the way we envisioned it would be back last New Year’s Day.

Sometimes life goes in a different direction because of decisions we make. At other times, life changes suddenly through no fault of our own. We might wish things would never change – but when things don’t change, that’s one definition of “death.” Unless we’re already dead, change happens.

None of us know what 2012 will bring. I’m pretty certain that not everything will go exactly as we plan. God never promises to give us a life that doesn’t change. God’s promise is to be with us through life’s changes.

May God be with you in the coming year!

Silent night, holy night, all is calm, all is bright. We sing it every year. But can we live it? Can we cease our frantic pace long enough to stop and notice the birth of the peasant – king. Can we slow down for just a little while to worship the Creator of the Universe.

This is Bob Peden of Central United Methodist Church in downtown Meridian. This Christmas Central offers four opportunities for you to do just that. This Saturday, Christmas Eve, you are encouraged to join with others in hearing the carols of Christmas, the stories of Christmas and celebrating the grace of God, born into our world, through Holy Communion. You are welcome at any one of our services 1 pm, 3 pm or 5pm.

You are all also invited to a time of informal worship Sunday, Christmas Day, at 10:00 am. What better way to celebrate the birth of God’s son than to sing His songs, Hear His stories, and Praise him in spirit and truth. Come on, Let Us Adore Him, Christ the Lord.

SABRINA

I have a friend who has a recipe for after Christmas soup.

You boil your turkey carcass, then add your leftover dressing, vegetables, casseroles, meats, gravies and pastas. Anything but the sweets! It may not sound very appetizing, but what would be small useless portions of food are transformed into a warm delicious comfort meal.

In the days following Christmas, looking at a dead tree, family
having returned home, we often find ourselves feeling let down and useless, somewhat like the leftovers in the refrigerator. Just like the leftovers, we too have a purpose.

I invite you to join us at 10:00 this Sunday morning to welcome the new year in worship, finding love, comfort and restoration in God’s love.  The simple process of coming together in love and fellowship as we continue to celebrate the birth of the Christ Child allows us to take to fragmented pieces of ourselves and lift up wholeness as we welcome in 2012.  We hope to
see you Sunday.

Have a blessed day.

GOOD MORNING!

Did you get what you wanted for Christmas?  Was it the right size, the right color?  Sadly, the only thing that rivals the madness of Christmas gift shopping is the madness of Christmas gift returning.

When the relationship is right, how right the gift itself becomes.  My mother has a storage locker filled with things she no longer needs or never wanted.  Once when sent to deposit something there, I discovered sever framed prints and paintings that had never been hung on her walls.  Yet, her refrigerator is covered with finger paintings and scribbled drawings by her grandchildren, put there for the entire world to see.

These gifts are an expression of unselfish love, given freely with nothing expected in return.  But can we say the same for the gifts we gave this year.  How often do we use the cost of the gift as a substitute for time and attention that was not offered earlier?

If the gifts you gave and received this year didn’t feel just right, let me encourage you to spend all this upcoming year working on them.  Spend time strengthening old relationships and forging new ones.

Wesley

Good morning. I am Wesley Pepper Associate Pastor of Central UMC.

Once a man attended a circus and saw a fellow leading a fine, well-groomed horse. He asked, "Is that a saddle horse?" "No," the owner replied." " "Well, what is he good for?" The owner replied, "Style, man, style. Just look at the picture he makes."

That same man attended a church the following Sunday. He saw lots of people clad in fine clothes sitting in the sanctuary. Afterward, he asked the pastor, "Do many of these folks visit the sick and the elderly?" "No," he replied, "Then he asked, "Do many of these folks tithe their incomes so that mission ministries can serve the poor?" Sadly the pastor shook his head. The man asked, "Do these folks have a passion for sharing the Gospel with the unchurched?" The pastor replied, I am sorry to say that they don’t. The man shook his head and said to himself, "There's that horse again…Nothing but style."

The Christian Life is a call to follow Christ and to serve others as Christ serves the world. Following Christ has little to do with style and more to do with doing the will of God.

Christmas Memories...somehow this year they are even more important to me. In October my precious Daddy died, so this year will be the first year I will spend without either of my parents on this earth. I remember the beautiful wedding dress Mrs. Claus made for me as a small child, the wonderful wooden coloring box Santa made for me in his workshop that now holds a place of special honor in my home.

Christmas is supposed to be a joyous, happy time, full of warmth, hugs, and laughter...but maybe not...if this year finds you mourning a loss, facing a first, second, or third Christmas not surrounded by those you so desperately love,...go back and revisit the Christmas story.

God came to earth in the form of a tiny baby, not to condemn us...but to save us...allowing us to live forever...not forever on this earth, but forever with Him. We often forget THAT is why we celebrate Christmas. Those whom we love who are no longer here on this earth, are in the presence of that tiny baby come to earth.

Does it make the grief of separation any less...no. Is it a reason to rejoice? Most surely. Merry Christmas!

Good Morning & Merry Christmas!

Jesus said, “I am the light of the world.” That fact was revealed to me when I was 11 years old. I do remember, as a young boy, lying in bed with tears in my eyes thinking: They would not have done this to my Jesus if I had been there, because I would have told them that Jesus is the Savior. And I knew that they would all have felt the same way I did at that moment. How naïve!

But Jesus tells you and me that now we are to be the light of the world. We are to let our light shine before men.

Every Christmas Eve, I stand in church with other believers and hold a lit candle high. I remember my salvation and I thank God for the gift of Jesus Christ.

Would you like to join us and hold a candle high for Christ? Services are 1, 3, and 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve at CUMC.

Merry Christmas!

For years my father, a retired scientist, told the story about a government experiment designed to determine a person’s health and energy levels by measuring the aura surrounding the human body using infra red cameras. Early test indicated as a person’s health wanes so does the thickness of the light around their bodies.

During the experiment one of the test subject’s had a visitor. When the visitor entered the room, he removed an object from his pocket and upon doing so the room flooded with so much light that the cameras were unable to record discernible levels. After the visitor had left, the scientist discovered that the man was in the last stages of cancer and the visitor he received had been his priest, there to administer Holy Communion.

Reviewing the recorded data from that point forward they were amazed to find the man’s aura thicker and brighter than before the visit.

Take a moment to reflect on the light of Christ that burns brightly within us every time we pause to admire a brightly lit Christmas tree or burning candle, taking comfort in the knowledge that the light that dwells within us still burns bright, vanquishing the darkness of the world around us

GLENDA

Good Morning:

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulders; and his name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. Isaiah said those words approximately 750 years before the birth of Christ. That prophecy came true and the birth of that child is the reason we celebrate Christmas each year.  Angels proclaimed his birth.  Shepherds bowed down and worshiped him.  Herod wanted him dead, but He lived.  He lived for you and for me.

Christmas is not just a holiday. It is a holy day.  Without Christ, we wouldn’t have the promise of eternal life. Without Christ, our sins wouldn’t be forgiven. Without Christ there would be no hope.   Without Christ, we wouldn’t have this holiday.  Remember that as you celebrate Christmas this year. Merry Christmas to you all.

BOB RAMBO

Hi!  I'm Bob Rambo, Lead Pastor at Central United Methodist Church.  Christmas is only about a week away.  Many people will travel to be with friends and family.  But many others will NOT travel - or have no place to go.

We invite you to join us at Central on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

On Saturday, December 24th, Christmas Eve, we'll host 3 Services of Holy Communion - at 1 p.m., at 3 p.m., and at 5 p.m.  Come to one or come to all.

Then, on Christmas Day, we'll gather for a worship service at 10 a.m. in our Sanctuary.  What better way to celebrate the one whose birthday it is than to worship him!  On this day, we invite you to come as you are.  It'll probably be cold, so dress comfortably.  We'll sing cherished carols, hear a message of Christmas joy, and share God's love with one another on this special day.

You may already have plans for Christmas Eve and Christmas - BUT IF NOT, join us at Central, where everyone is welcome!

DANIEL & GINA PUCKETT

Good Morning!

What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
Oh, what peace we often forfeit,
Oh, what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!

“What a Friend We Have in Jesus” is one of our favorite songs, as it reminds us that Jesus is always with us, He is always listening, and is forevermore carrying our burdens. The only problem is that we sometimes try to do it all on our own, and we forget that nothing is possible without God, but with Him, anything is possible.

Jesus says, “My Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.” -John 16:23.

Why not practice today giving God all of your worry, doubts, and fears? He can ease our minds and give us the comfort we need to go about doing His good and perfect will, without having to carry around all of that extra weight on our shoulders. What needless worry we bear when all we have to do is give it to God.

Good Morning:

Today I want to remind you of some Christmas traditions. First of all, it's the most important birthday of all times, and it's celebrated all over the world. It's a celebration that brings joy, gifts, and the singing of traditional worship songs while feasting with joyous connection to family and friends.

Did you know the white lights on the Christmas tree represent the purity of Christ and the heart that lives for Him?

And how about the holly?  It's an evergreen plant, and it represents eternal life. This is what we are promised through Jesus Christ.

Candles represent the light and life of Christ that shines upon all men.

One thing that Jesus loved to do when He was on earth was eat with those He loved, thus the tradition of family feasting.

And those wonderful Christmas Carols draw loved ones together and fills the heart with praise for our Savior. It is purely about bringing Jesus honor and loving those whom God has blessed us with.

My hope for you this Christmas is that you remember that Jesus is the reason for the season. Merry Christmas!

GOOD MORNING!

Isaiah 43:5-6 reads, “Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bring your children from the east and gather you from the west. I will say to the north, 'Give them up!'  And to the south, 'Do not hold them back.'

Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the ends of the earth-

What appropriate language for this time of year. Much as we prepare to arrive at mother's or grandmother's house at Christmas, to be reunited with family, many of whom we haven't seen since last year. Yet, God is calling His children back together.

All is forgiven. “Come my children”, says our Father. “Come into the loving home I have kept in anticipation of your return to me.” Yes, no greater gift can be given as we begin this Christmas season than the gift of reconciliation and the love that comes with it.

Won't you come home to your Father's House this holiday season?

Wesley

Good Morning! I am Wesley Pepper, Associate Pastor at Central UMC.

When Pope Julius I authorized December 25th to be celebrated as the birthday of Jesus in A.D. 353, who would have ever thought that it would become what it is today.

When Professor Charles Follen lit candles on the first Christmas tree in America in 1832, who would have ever thought that the decorations would become as elaborate as they are today.

It is a long time since 1832, longer still from 353, longer still from that dark night brightened by a special star in which Jesus the king was born. Yet, as we approach December 25th again, it gives us yet another opportunity to pause, and in the midst of all the excitement and elaborate decorations and expensive commercialization, which surround Christmas today, to consider again the event of Christmas and the person whose birth we celebrate.

BOB PEDEN

Christmas is a season for music. The gospels, particularly the Gospel of Luke, include many songs. We hear the Song of Mary in the home of Elizabeth, John the Baptist's mother. We hear the Song of Zachariah, John's Father, when John is presented in the temple. We think of the angels singing their message from the heavens. We hear the song of Simeon when Jesus is presented in the temple.

Yes Christmas is the season for music. At Central United Methodist Church this Sunday music will dominate both the 8:30 and 10:55 worship services. At 8:30 the Praise Band will lead the service in contemporary Christian songs of the birth of Christ and at 10:55 the Sanctuary Choir will lead us in a service of scripture lessons and Christmas carols.

This is Bob Peden of Central United Methodist Church. You are always welcome at Central, but this would be a very good Sunday to come enjoy an entire morning of beautiful, exciting Christmas music. I look forward to seeing you here.

BOB PEDEN

Do you remember how hard it was to wait for Christmas when you were a child? How good are you at waiting now? I must confess I am probably no better at waiting for Christmas now than I was as a child. For example, I have been listening to carols about the baby born in a manger for weeks now.

The Psalmist says, “I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry.”

At Central United Methodist Church we are learning what it means to wait patiently for the Lord. Oh yes, we have already begun to sing Christmas carols on Sunday mornings. But, we are learning of the longing of Israel, who waited for centuries for the coming of the Lord. And we strive to maintain our expectancy for His return. We read of the child within Elizabeth leaping for joy at the arrival of the unborn Messiah, and we seek that same joy at His presence in our lives.

This is Bob Peden of Central United Methodist Church. I invite you to join us as we learn what it means to wait patiently for the Lord.

GINA PUCKETT

Good Morning!

In Luke Chapter 16, Jesus tells us a story about a rich man who did not make it through the pearly gates of Heaven, but instead was thrown into the depths of hell. He was in much torment there, and he wanted to warn his five brothers that if they did not change their earthly ways, they, too, would end up in the same agony.  But Abraham reminds the man that his brothers have Moses and the prophets, and says, “Let them listen to them.” “No, father Abraham,” says the man, “But if someone from the dead goes to them, they would repent.” Abraham replies, “If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.”

God has provided us with so many tools and resources that help us to lead a Christian life, but sometimes we just do not listen. We have the Bible that teaches us how to live, a community of friends in faith through the church, and Jesus Himself is always with us, helping us along our journey. It should not take a monumental change or a devastating disaster to make us understand that God is very real. We just have to believe.

BOB RAMBO

Hi!  I'm Bob Rambo, Lead Pastor at Central United Methodist Church.  We're now in a season of the year some Christians refer to as “Advent”.  “Advent” comes from a Latin word that means “coming” - because this time of year Christians are preparing to celebrate the “coming” of the one we believe is God's Son and the Savior of the world - Jesus of Nazareth.

Advent teaches us that the proper way to “prepare” for Christ's coming is by repentance and good works.  We remember the words of the Prophet Isaiah and John the Baptist - Prepare the way for the Lord!  And the way we do that is by turning FROM those things that separate us from God and turning TO those things that please God.

Many of us are “preparing” for Christmas right now.  We're searching for the perfect gift, we're making special foods for friends and family, we're decorating our homes with lights.  And all of that is good.

But don't forget to prepare your heart to welcome Christ.  Don't overlook the necessity of opening our lives and letting Christ live in us.

How are YOU preparing for Christmas?

GOOD MORNING!

Winter was coming and a hunter went out into the forest to shoot a bear, out of which he planned to make a warm coat. By and by he saw a big brown bear coming toward him and raised his rifle and took aim. “Wait,” said the bear. “Why do you want to shoot me?” “Because I am cold,” said the hunter, “and I need a coat.”

“But I am hungry,” the bear replied. “So maybe if we just talk this over a little, we could compromise.” So the hunter sat down beside the bear and began to talk over the situation. In the end, however, the hunter was well enveloped by the bear's fur, and the bear had eaten his dinner.

Often times when we take a stand for Jesus the world tries to get us to compromise. When Jesus was tempted by the devil in the wilderness, He shot 3 bullets, all beginning with the phrase, “It is written…” he quoted God's Word and the devil had no power over him. Don't bargain with the devil. If you do you're dead meat.

SABRINA

It is, indeed, Christmas time in the city.  Meridian's annual Downtown Christmas Parade will take place tomorrow evening at 5:30 p.m.  Because at Central we are excited to be a part of Downtown Meridian, we are opening the doors of our church to the community.  We will open at 5:00, offering homemade soup, hot chocolate, popcorn, train rides for the children, along with a visit from Santa.

For those who are torn between the Christmas Parade and the SEC Championship game...worry not...we will have the game on the big screen in our Fellowship Hall. All of this is just our way of inviting you into our lives...a gift from us to the community.

Come join us as we celebrate the sights, sounds, and smells of the season!

If you do not have a church home, we invite you to return and worship with us on Sunday morning.  We have two services...a Contemporary Service at 8:30, followed by Sunday School, and a Traditional Worship Service at 10:55.  We hope to see you tomorrow evening...and maybe again on Sunday!  Have a blessed day!

SABRINA

(Background video with no sound)

A little boy, playing

the part of the

innkeeper in the

Christmas play, had

only one line.  His one line was to say to Joseph and Mary,'There is no

room at the inn!'

This line began to

trouble the young boy.  He did not want to play the part of the

calloused person who

had turned away the

baby Jesus.

He was reminded over and over that it was just fine...it was part of the Christmas story.

On the night of the

performance, however, when

Mary and Joseph

knocked on the door

of the inn, the little

boy opened it and

said, 'There is no room at the inn.'

Then he quickly

added, 'But you can

come in for a cup of

hot chocolate!'”

During the seasons of

Advent and Christmas, our minds

are focused on

buying gifts, decorating, and parties.  However, let

us not forget the true reason for Christmas, in celebrating God coming to us in the form of a baby...living among us, teaching us, saving us. The best Christmas gift we can

give to Christ is the gift of ourselves.  It is, after all, what He did for us!
