JONATHAN

Hi, I’m Jonathan Crabtree, Pastor for Student Ministry at Central – a United Methodist Community. Have you ever felt the urge to do something out of your comfort zone, but held back for reasons such as fear of failure, lack of self-confidence, or because you convinced yourself that it wasn’t the right time? I’m sure we all have at some point. A character named Abram was called out of his own country and family, and in the ancient near-Eastern area of the world, a person didn’t do that.

Abram felt more than an urge; he heard the voice of God tell him what to do. What we have recorded in Genesis is that he did the very thing he was told to do without reservation. Do you think Abram was afraid? Uncomfortable? Or even lacked self-confidence? I think so, but what we see happen is that God continues to guide him, and Abram becomes Abraham and a patriarch of the Jewish and Christian faith. He took a healthy risk, trusted God, and stepped out of his comfort zone. Are you feeling that urge to step out of your comfort zone today? Then do it! It could impact the world!
