SUZANNE

If someone says “Don’t tell anyone what you’ve seen”, what is your first

reaction?

Several times in the book of Mark, these are Jesus’ instructions to people that

He has healed. In Chapter 5, it’s after healing Jarius’ daughter, where He

gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this.

In Chapter 7, it is a deaf mute, and even though Jesus commanded them not

to tell anyone, the more he did so, the more they kept talking about it.

Back in Chapter 3, Jesus gave strict orders to the demons who cried out “You

are the Son of God,” Not to tell who he was.

Throughout Mark’s gospel Jesus encourages people not to tell who He was.

Each time, more and more people came to know Jesus, the Christ.  So maybe,

if I tell you NOT to tell anyone about what God has done for you, the Spirit

will bubble up inside you, and you will be unable to remain silent! May you

be blessed today.

For Central United Methodist Church, this is Suzanne Cain.
