In his gospel the apostle John tells us that after Jesus’ death “Joseph of Arimathea, who had been a secret disciple of Jesus because he feared the Jewish leaders, asked Pilate for permission to take Jesus' body down. When Pilate gave him permission, he came and took the body away.
Nicodemus, the man who had come to Jesus at night, also came, bringing about seventy-five pounds of embalming ointment made from myrrh and aloes.” The power of the Cross is demonstrated in the lives of these two men, neither of whom showed himself fully to be a disciple of Jesus in his ministry. Now in his death, they make sure he is given a proper burial, proving themselves loyal to the Lord at the most dangerous time for them to do so. The Cross touched them when nothing else could, just as it has touched me! Have you allowed it to touch you?
